I discussed it with Gimleteye and we concur with the Miami Herald, we also strongly endorse Maria Anderson for Coral Gables Commission Group III. We have the Miami Herald Endorsement at the end of this post so we don’t have to repeat what has already been written about Ms. Anderson. Unlike the Herald, we also strongly oppose Anderson’s opponent for this seat. Our reasons are painstakingly detailed in 20 posts on this blog. We started writing about our discontent with Developer Gonzalo Sanabria in 2007, 2 years before the race began. We believe that with his long tenure on planning and transportation boards, he has been instrumental in weaving the web of what is wrong in Miami Dade County. Our blog masthead says:
"We aim to break the chokehold of Miami's developers and lobbyists on local government and the public commons. We offer our forum to that end."
This is exactly what we are doing with this endorsement of Maria Anderson.

Maria Anderson, 53, with two terms to her credit, is facing challenger Gonzalo Sanabria, 61, a real-estate developer. This race is turning ugly, with Mr. Sanabria sending out fliers that mischaracterize Ms. Anderson's record and hint at improprieties, using innuendo that is skimpy on facts.
Overall Ms. Anderson's record has been one of sound reasoning on votes, and actions to promote better service to residents. She is something of a policy wonk who does her homework and thinks through decisions before acting on them.
One of Mr. Sanabria's accusations against Ms. Anderson is that she is pro development. That's unfair to Ms. Anderson, considering Mr. Sanabria's record. When he served on Miami-Dade's Planning and Zoning Board, Mr. Sanabria, a former chairman of the Latin Builders Association, consistently voted in favor of moving the county's Urban Development Boundary to allow more development.
The choice in this race is as clear as in the Group II race. Ms. Anderson has earned a third term. She was a moving force behind the Coral Gables Charrette that eventually produced a rewrite of the city's zoning code, ordinances that better protect residential neighborhoods from commercial development and a vision plan for the revitalization of Miracle Mile. Since first elected to the commission in 2001, Ms. Anderson has been a strong proponent of fiscal conservatism. She pushed the city to build its reserves, which at that time were just $600,000. Today, the reserve fund is close to $10 million.
If reelected, Ms. Anderson would continue her fiscal oversight in these tight budget times, urge pension reform and seek ways the city can increase revenue without raising taxes or fees.

I am a senior citizen and Commissioner Anderson has helped get us programs so that we are staying healthy, happy and productive.

Obviously, no one here pays Coral Gables taxes or is a staunch Maria supporter -a dying breed in CG. No one here has any conception or wants to address theft of public funds. Okay, we understand, your little blogspot supports Anderson. But you and A LOT of outside media have had to address the corruption.
Here's the problem - Anderson came in with a fresh approach and untarnished image - that was many years ago.
Even after David ADMITTED to STEALING & LYING (Country Club and P-Card)- Maria wanted to, "move on from it."
This is what you are not addressing. Anderson is someone who is willing to help someone out even though they did something wrong and illegal.
So, how can you slam Sanabria? Just how much worse could he do than Anderson?
Again, if you were in Coral Gables you would see all the lawn signs and support for Sanabria.

Third, There was no corruption on the part of Commissioner Anderson. You had a guy who started to milk the system and he had an affair. He lied to the Mayor and the Commissioners. If he did something illegal why hasn’t he been arrested?
How much worse could he be than Anderson? If she were the one who did everything that former City Manager Brown did, she still would still be 100 times better than Gonzalo. Read our posts on Sanabria.
How can I slam Sanabria? Are you an idiot or what? We have written 20 posts laying out in minute detail why we are slamming Sanabria. Read one of the posts because you obviously haven’t. And get off our blog. Come back in 4 years if you get Sanabria and let us know how you are doing then.
You had a city manager who was unethical and he had an affair. He lied to Maria Anderson too. Lawn signs don’t mean a thing except that people can be talked into having a lawn sign. You, Mr. deserve Gonzalo because you are stupid enough to base success on lawn signs. If that is what is the measure of success, than Coral Gables deserves Gonzalo Sanabria. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
The anonymous person is projecting guilt on those just trying to do their job. David Brown did turn into a scumbag, but that doesn't mean you take down the Government. The same holds true for Steve Shiver, and Ceasar Odio. It is not guilt by association. People did not take Katy Sorenson or Jimmy Morales out of office because of Shiver or Regalado out of office because of Odio. People were smart enough to determine that the people in power weren't joined at the hip of the staff. And, I was asked to put up a Gonzalo sign and I said: Hell no.
