The County Commission 101: District 3, Audrey Moss Edmonson. By Geniusofdespair

I decided I would do brief bio’s of the County Commissioners, Eye On Miami style. Some of you might not know a lot about County Commissioners, but you should! So I will do every Commissioner and here is District 3 ( Also see District 1 and see District 2). To know them is to pretty much hate them.

What can you say about Audrey Edmonson? She took over when Barbara Carey-Shuler retired suddenly. Barbara at least you could count on for a pretty good vote here and there. Audrey? Forget about it. She never votes right. I can’t remember a good vote from her on a pivotal issue. She votes with vile Natacha Seijas on most things so you have some idea from what cloth she is cut.

Audrey lives in El Portal. Her net worth December 31, 2007 was $249,000. She has good furniture, she values it at $25,000 ($10,000 more than the previous year). She owes Sallie Mae Servicing in Pennsylvania $33,000 for a student loan and she has a pretty big mortgage. Her financial statement is boring compared to Rolle’s and Jordan’s.

In 2007 the Miami Dade School Board paid her $50,150.14. For what? Come on, we don’t have money to burn in the school system. The previous year she got $38,017.38. Why the increase? She also got $43,902 (with the perks) for being the County Commissioner. Why does everyone say $6,000 a year? She had a Lis Pendens notice of foreclosure in 2002 but it appears she paid up.

Here are a few of her donations from her discretionary funds 2006 (actually it is our tax dollars at work -- not HER funds), she gave $20,000 to Allapattah Community Action, Inc. and $22,100 to Brownsville Community Development Corp. and $25,000 to the Contractors Resource Center. I am curious about this group. Anyone know anything about them? I looked up the officers and didn’t recognize anyone. (I will post more on them at the end of this article.) She gave $10,000 to the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority (yes my tax dollars to a sorority, that is how I want to spend it). She gave $25,000 to JESCA (Rolle’s employer in 2006), $20,000 to the Carver branch of the YMCA. In 2007 she gave again to the Sorority $11,000 and the Contractors $10,000. She gave the Village of El Portal $10,000.

Audrey Edmonson is one of the unreformable majority of the County Commission. So, the three above are among the worst, there are four others to add to them.

More on Contractors Resource Center - What they do: "Provide outreach support for minority contractors seeking construction opportunities with public entities such as airport. Also provide general services for over 400 small and minority contractors. Also provide job training."

Gross Receipts $834,779 Form 990 2007. Total Revenue $625,512. Expenses: Management and General $252,766. Program Services $380,008. Net Assets and Fund Balances -$383.611. The President get $70,000 salary. Aside from that they pay $217,783 in salaries. They paid $74,184 in sub-contract services. They paid $10,720 in bank charges. They get $530,452 from Government Agencies and $60,710 from donations. They have a construction in progress for $266,882. It appears that the president took/gave a loan for $150,000 and the bookkeper did the same for $20,300. It is listed on Part IV, Line 63 of the 990.There is a mortgage and other notes payable for $284,473. The balance due on this at the end of year is $134,472. This is all pretty meaningless to me. But, the IG Office is suppose to do random audits on these non-profits before they fork over our tax dollars. They don't. If they did they might be able to make sense of this 990 form. I am not drawing any conclusions as I am math deprived.

"We paid for that shirt and the embroidery..." and her underwear too, provided she doesn't go a la Britney Spears!

Let us see how Edmonson votes on March 23rd? The Marlins demand that taxpayers pay over $2 billion over 40 years, primarily in interest, so the Marlins get to vastly increase the Net Worth of their privately owned company. Will Edmonson vote for the bailout?
Or will she review the scam realize Miami-Dade County is getting screwed and vote NO?

She is one of those commissioners, all 3 are in the photo, who screams for more for her poor district and then votes to spend big infrastructure bucks outside the UDB. Is she stupid or just campaigning for election $$$$. I don't get it! Do they really think we can't connect the dots.

To get they have to give, that is the rest of the story.

Puhlease. Edmonson is not one of those on the fence about the fishbowl.

She may be feeling a bit of pressure to posture for her constituents after Spence-Jones gummed up the works for Loria's estate planning. Then again, she's probably seen how the media has savaged the rookie city commissioner for her ham-fisted effort and made it look like extortion. There was probably some of that too, but not by seeking investments in O-town.

Edmonson voted to allow speculators to build in the Everglades. Really stupid vote since Edmonson's constituents need urban infill. Edmonson has many vacant lots. So Edmonson really screws her residents every time she votes to invade the UDB.

Does Edmonson want $2 billion to be shifted from taxpayers to the privately owned Marlins? For a site that will not be on the tax rolls? Isn't Overtown and Park West in Edmonson's District?
