If what Florida Power & Light was doing at Turkey Point was so righteous, why do they need 42 separate lobbyist entries to lobby the County Commission? Here is their lobbyist list on each issue they are lobbying for ("open" means still working on it):

Genius, there's only 14 or 15 different names there, corresponding to at least a couple different phases/applications. At least two are company employees, and several are from the same firm.
I know you want to be accurate.
And I don't want you to get vertigo.
I know I looked at the list. I said lobbyist entries...not separate lobbyists. I am accurate...They just ask Lobbyist Bercow to lobby on different issues thus, more fees. And, the company lobbyists have to get paid too. A lot of money on lobbying...I do know it is not 42 people. I can count.
So, this is actually a post criticizing lobbyist registration rules?
My apologies...
Carry on.
If you want to split hairs, go on the Herald website...they get paid. 1,288 posts and counting.
I'm going to send them all love letters laced with uranium.
Your light bill at work and they deduct it from taxes as a business expense. Why are we, the public utility captive, always getting screwed?
post fails miserably. Bercow, Radell, staff level atty's, construction consultants, civil engineers, environmental consultants ... my god, why would they need them? something deceitful and devious I bet.
Genius, I don't get why you think I'm splitting hairs. And as for being banished to the comment swamp at the Herald, I guess I should be offended. They wouldn't know a split hair from the hair on their knuckles. Besides, I find your posts much more entertaining and worthwhile.
If your point was there are too many lobbyists, I concede.
If your point was that the mere presence of a lobbyist renders a purpose nefarious, I object.
If your point was that lobbyist regulations, though a good idea generally, are absurd and ineffectual for the most part, I agree.
If your point was FPL= BAD, well, that's not quite what you were saying, was it?
I understand this is a labor of love for you. Love your labor a little more. Recklessness does not buy you credibility.
Keep up the good work.
point was i suppose to have a point?
I think the point is: why, if what they are doing is so good for everyone and the government, do they need so many lobbyists (let's concede there are 20 on the list to make the moose happy)? You don't need 20 people to talk you into something if it is beneficial. Granted, the commissioners are pretty stupid so you might need someone to explain it and another person to draw it. You only need 2 lobbyists for that. 20 Lobbyists are a hammer. You don't need a hammer unless you are doing something questionable. It would be a waste of money and we know that FP&L does not waste money.
Thank you Anon. But the assumption that all these folks are lobbying commissioners isn't necessarily a good one. The regulations require you to register in order to contact any county employee on behalf of a client. Add to that the reality that, for example, if you were Bercow, you might want the lowly associate working on the application with you to also be registered, just in case you sprain your back (carrying bags of money to a commissioner, no doubt). Another poster identified some of these particular registrants as environmental consultants (engineers). Presumably, these folks are talking to the county staff engineers. And so on, and so on.
My point is this: Stop looking at any group formed as techical support for a multi-billion dollar project, as proof that a project has no merit. It is disingenuous. There's plenty of real issues with the project that people can debate, without sounding silly. What's next, palling around with terrorists?
Genius, you don't have to have a point. This is your blog. But if that's your choice, then don't try so hard to make it look like you have one.
The whole point of this blog...is to name names and look at issues openly. I never said I had the answers on everything, I am providing information most of time, sometimes peppered with my opinion -- but mostly information is presented for you to mull over.
All the people who slither around in the background are named here on this blog and are pictured, when I can find their pictures. All the people in the Herald that I know other things about, that the Herald does not report, are presented here. I.E. that Carrie Meek also uses the name Davis.
I think the lobbyist system in the county stinks. You can't get a project approved without a slew of the RIGHT lobbyists. Even Angela Gittens threw up her hands in disgust and was admonished by Vile Natacha Seijas for her activism to clean up the airport of lobbyists. We all know what happened to Angela.
An informed public is my goal.
And, as far as good posts...read my Fannie Mae post from Sunday. People routinely pass over what I consider my best posts with my best research. That post is chock full of some very good research and took me an enormous amount of time to piece together. Our blogs are not going to hit home runs all the time and I would hope our readers are tolerant on the posts that don't, appreciating them for what they are: a means to inform you so you can see the underpinning in county politics.
