I am not going to even mention the political party that left us in this financial hole or the one left to get us out of it. This post isn't about that so you idiots trashing parties, not on this post please. This blog is a warning to our President about Florida.
President Obama, listen up: I don't know how to get us out of the mess the country is in, however, I do worry about giving our local governments and our State government ANY federal dollars. They will waste the funds. They will misdirect them. They will do whatever it takes to not use the money wisely. As sure as I am that I will take a breath right now (I did), that is how sure I am about Florida's incompetence with money.
The trick is, President Obama, don't just hand over money because you will just be throwing it down the crapper and supplementing local budgets with Federal funds. They will unfund wherever you put Federal dollars and keep on spending our local money like drunken sailors. We have no economy to build on or fix. Our Florida economy is based on growth. As Carl Hiaasen noted: "...the mechanism of (Florida's) economy is modeled on that of a cancer cell."
P.S. You might read Carl Hiaasen's column, Reaping the fruit planted by greed in today's Miami Herald and you will see what I mean. Hiaasen said:
The state stands to receive billions in recovery funds from Uncle Sam, some of which might actually trickle down to people who need it. Still, the money will do nothing for the long-range, dead-end plight of a place where growth isn't the product of prosperous industry; it is the industry.

The Federal funds are suppose to be tracked on line to insure they are used properly. What is the mechanism to determine that projects are helping create jobs, save homes and reduce the financial mess we are in? This is a tall order for our local governments that seem to have no clue how to appropiate funds that benefit the taxpayers.
I want the economy to turn around, but if all the other states are as bad a Florida, the money will be squandered. The tax cut won't work. If I got one, it would go right in the bank for that rainy day. So what will work? I think keeping a firm hand on the money that is distributed is the answer. The bankers taught us an important lesson.
I sure hope that someone forwards his particular blog to our President, because those of us who keep track of our politicians know without a doubt that they will continue in their citizens be damned way. The money will end up in their pockets and that of their friends.
Gimleteye we here in Florida are in pre-K when it comes to corruption and graft by politicians, New York, Warterbury CT, Chicago, Newak NJ, Boston MA, etc etc those are the big leagues. Im not making any excuses these guys down here ain't the viena boys choir, but they are bush league.
As for someone sticking their sheckles in a bank thats not a bad thing since it gives banks more incentive and confidence to lend beats having the money wasted on corruption and make work government projects.
Tracked online? Yeah right whoever believes that ha probably bought a few waterfront acres in the everglades already. OOOOPS I forgot we taxpayers are gonna be paying a bunch for that stuff soon.
