The County Doesn't Pay Attention to It's Own Polls. By Geniusofdespair

I found these two charts from the Miami Dade Strategic Plan pretty telling (hit to enlarge them). You would think if the County was using our money to poll us, they might pay attention to the results. The County asked residents whether they thought the Government delivers excellent public services. 67.2% responded neutral to “strongly disagree” with the statement. Only 26.4% thought the government gave excellent service. In my book, if you are neutral you are not happy with what you are getting but you are too wimpy to say it.

Even more telling (watch out on that Marlin vote tomorrow County Commissioners), when asked whether the Government uses your tax dollars wisely, 80.8% where neutral to “strongly disagree” with that statement. Only 19.1% of those asked thought the Government was using their taxes wisely. Even if you take out the neutral (wimpy) people, you have 46% of residents who think their tax dollars are NOT being used wisely.

The people speak...but nobody listens.

The issue is not that the elected officials don't read the polls, it is that the electorate votes in the same yo-yos even though they consistently don't represent their interests.

Steve. You have heard about the Clinton machinery, I'm sure. Well, here we have the county commissioners machinery and who can compete with that! Trying to recall Natacha Seijas was very enlightening. All the unions had members opposing the recall -including the M-D police, county employees during work hours; Seijas raised $500,000 in 2 weeks from developers, lobbyists and other special interests while our recall committee raised a meager $18,000. Who can compete with that? Each commissioner has a slush fund with which they can buy votes and I can go on and on and on until the horse is dead. That's the only reason they NEVER lose an election. This is a BANANA REPUBLIC democracy and where can one complain -the governor and the legislature are as corrupt, the only advantage being that they have term limits, which the M-D commissioners abhor.
