US Congressman Kendrick Meek to run for Senate. By gimleteye

AP NewsBreak: Fla. Rep. Meek to run for Senate. Democratic U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, who led the effort to put class-size limits in the state constitution, plans to announce his candidacy for U.S. Senate on Tuesday, say sources close to Meek. Meek would be the first major candidate to get in the 2010 race to replace retiring Republican Sen. Mel Martinez. Meek, 42, is beginning his fourth term in Congress. He sits on the powerful Ways & Means Committee and the Armed Services Committee and has a close relationship with Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The Miami resident previously served eight years in the Legislature. As a senator, he staged a sit-in protest in then-Gov. Jeb Bush's office complex over a proposal to strip affirmative action protections from state contracting and university admissions.

He had better get a handle on his ethically challenged mother.

His claim to fame---a sit in in Gov Bush's office...LOL

This will be an uphill battle in the Northern section of the State. Or, a losing battle. Also, all the dirt on mom will come out.

Meek has one of the most disorganized congressional offices in the state filled with unqualified people and he has never had to mange a competitive campaign in his life. Unless he gets some major outside help his campaign will be a joke. Even if does runs a flawless campaign, he's still a long shot. I hope he like his congressional seat- he’s probably there for life.

If Meek qualifies, he will have to resign his congressional seat, which means he cannot return to congress and will likely forfeit the chance to reclaim it in 2012. Although likely to garner press for being a serious competitor and possibly the first black Florida Senator, CFO Alex Sink is going to wipe his slate clean. Yes, she hasn't made an announcement, but she's in. And she's going to win.

If Meek does qualify and resigns his congressional seat, it could be that Miami-Dade's most attractive politician may be on his way to D.C.

Meek is a lightweight. And he has the added burden of having an ethically challenged mother.
