A Former Miami Dade Planning Advisory Board Member Speaks Out on Gonzalo Sanabria. By Geniusofdespair

Rod Jude (pictured) was a Miami Dade Planning Advisory Board (PAB) Member for approximately 14 years. I asked him for his impression of Gonzalo Sanabria. Gonzalo was also a PAB member for many years. I believe Sanabria was appointed by County Commissioner Gwen Margolis. Here is what Rod had to say about Gonzalo Sanabria:

"Clearly I don't think his votes were ever reflective of smart growth principles. He voted in favor of every sprawl development that came before us."

I mentioned that comments were coming into our blog, giving Gonzalo Sanabria credit for the incorporation movement in many cities in Miami Dade County (That is not saying that Gonzalo Sanabria is claiming this). Rod said of the claim/rumor:

"He cannot take credit for incorporation. He didn't initiate these efforts. We all voted pro or con. He might have voted for them but so did I. I believe in self-determination. Remember, we were only voting that citizens' incorporation initiatives would be considered by the Miami Dade County Commission and then these initiatives would be voted up or down by the people themselves."

I have long considered Gonzalo Sanabria, a developer from Coral Gables, as the Natacha Seijas of the Planning Advisory Board. I am glad he has moved on. (For more on Gonzalo Sanabria enter his name in the search above left of this page).

On his campaign website he says he was "a full fledged and active member of various "New Cities" incorporations efforts of Key Biscayne, Pinecrest, Aventura, Sunny Isles, Plametto Bay, Doral, Miami Lakes and Miami Gardens."

Wouldn't he then have had to recuse himself from voting on all of these New Cities while on the Planning Advisory Board? Did he recuse himself? Probably not. Is that ethical? Not a moderate, is it ethical?

Gonzolo Sanabria was part of the Kendall incorporation movement until approximately 1996 when he purchased a house in Coral Gables and was not part of the movement after that.As someone who was deeply involved in incorporation of Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay, and somewhat involved in the incorporation of Doral and Miami Gardens, there was no involvement by Mr. Sanabra in those movements that I know of. Gongalo Sanabria has a reputation of being pro real estate and development.
If he is claiming to be "a full fledged member and active member of the incorporation movement", that statement is totally false.

The beauty of having an enormous amount of money to donate to your campaign is that you can say pretty much whatever you want... even though it's the complete opposite of the truth. Can't wait for any debate where he talks about his "anti-development" legacy... isn't he a developer??? Yea... right.

I think Gonzolo was an early (founding?) member of the LBA. I have been involved in the incorporations of Palmetto Bay, East Kendall, Miami Gardens, Redland, The Falls, Redland's Edge and Doral to a lesser degree. I never saw Gonzolo at any of these meetings nor has he ever attended a LINC (Let's Incorporate Now Coalition) meeting. He sounds like a liar with an overabundance of ego. Rod Jude gave Gonzolo a run for his money on the PAB but unfortunately the majority of the PAB sided with the developers; what would one expect with PAB members appointed by commissioners. They are a mini commission.

Didn't Rod Jude turn into a developer himself? Sold his properties here and moved up north to develop properties?

Are we talking out of both sides?

Be an Angel here in Miami and a Developer up in the North

Ok, I get it
