Who Will Be the Looker of 2009? By Geniusofdespair
We heard you readers. Here are the finalists in the Second Annual Best Looking Office Holder in Miami-Dade award. In order of appearance: Mayor Carlos Alvarez, FL Rep. Erik Fresen, School Board Member Ana Rivas Logan, FL Rep. Oscar Braynon, Jr., FL Rep. Yolly Roberson and Mayor Manny Diaz. I had to do black and white because Rivas Logan only had a decent black and white photo on line, however, I think it looks classy. North Miami Councilman Scott Galvin held the title in 2008.
So, choose your poison. Who wins? Feel free to vote by comment or email. Remember we don't have to like them, this is strictly based on looks.
I have to say I am not fond of glamour shots, so this isn't easy. Yes, they are all posed but there is one OBVIOUS glamour shot and it isn't one of the ladies. Hit read more for other photos to review:

Fresen is the best looking man and Logan his female counterpart.
Braynon hands down - Fresen looks creepy with glowing eyes and ultrasmooth re-touched skin
Fresen.. hands down.
Too late to nominate Aventura commissioner Luz Weinberg?
You can find her pics here:
http://www.cityofaventura.com/commission/commission.htm
Or a bigger one here (she's 2nd from the right):

Fresen was the Lowe's hearing supporting Lowe's store. Scum.
I vote for Oscar.
I found a much better picture of Luz on a prostate cancer website...
however, it is too late to add her. We already have too many candidates for our more challenged readers.
you can nominate the lady next year...the marketing council...ick.
Why can't we find good looking politicians that are also good public servants? Self serving aside -- I feel your pain readers but this is a superficial contest by any standard. Even Fresen should be judged by looks alone. Ignore the cruddy stuff on all.
Alvarez looks like a real person, not a mannequin. He gets a vote from me.
There must be a photographer out there in Miami Head Shot land that says: Tilt your head to the left so it appears tilted to the right in the photo.
Diaz: Because he has the opposite tilt.
I vote for Alvarez... for US Congress.
From Holland and Knight's website.
In addition to Mayol, Goldstein, Krischer and Marrero-Priegues, the group includes senior counsel Felix Lasarte and Leila Jackson Batties; associate Stephen James; land use consultants Michael Freire and Erik Fresen; and Robert Losada.
Next year for Fresen.
Rivas Logan! Come on, lookatter, the choice is obvious.
logan by a million miles.
Manny Diaz! That's not a great picture. Please don't pick the glamour shot person
I vote twice for Manny Diaz
Oscar Braynon is handsome and young!
Alverez looks like he hasn't had a good meal in a while. The girlfriend must be starving him!
You should do a Blago and sell the pick.
Braynon is the best and good public servant of the people!
It is hard to judge from one photo...but these are all official photos from their own websites or from the office they hold. I am most disappointed with the photos of Alvarez and Diaz as they look better in person. I was looking for better but how much of my time is this stupid contest worth?
Sorry, but pretty/ handsome fades with time. The stench of Land Use lobbyist or developers hoor will never fade!
Braynon gets my vote
Diaz is my pick.
This is a beauty contest, why are you putting personality into it? All I care about is their beauty, as G.o.D. instructed. After the second photo of Logan was added, not so impressed. I think Alvarez has strength of character in his rugged good looks. Yolly Roberson is very attractive. I would vote for either one.
Alvarez looks as harsh as he is in real life. Mr. Landuse Attorney is just as harsh in a pretty boy way.
I think softer faces are prettier... And yup, the soul behind the face matters more to me.
I like Oscar, maybe it's the diamond earring.
yolly because she had a nautural glow :)
Fresen is way too beautiful, Alvarez looks worn out, and not really rugged. Manny is OK, but the sincere smile and the cool earring gets my vote for Oscar .....
Yolly has a pretty smile too, so she gets my lady vote.
Oscar Braynon is sexy...He has my vote. Fresen is particularly scary looking in a waxen way.
Alvarez has a masculine, Dirty Harry look. He is a angular, lean. Braynon's image in not as strong.
Diaz: Chipmunk Cheeks are not working for me. Sorry, I go for Logan, but the photo with the glasses is not as good as the other.
Diaz hands down.. then Braynon!
Braynon all the way! it's a year for change!
I like Yolly. She looks professional and pleasant.
Fresen looks like a weatherman for a small market CBS affiliate.
I think we need to watch out for this one big time. The power of the Dark Side strong within him is.
Agree last Anon. He is a pal of that school board big mouth -- Diaz-Balart. I tucked him in my mental slot with Marco Rubio and the rest of the pretty boy crew.
I would vote for Braynon...so sexy.
Is there a mug shot of Manny Diaz?
Then you wonder why we have problems down here when this turns out to be one your most popular stories.
good looker...great dresser, gets my vote!
(oscar that is)
Fresen looks like he belongs to a Soap Opera or a Spanish Novella.
Maybe we ought to start a story and each reader add a part. Then he could at least be a star here when he didn't feel like getting all duded-up for a picture. We will never know how he looking unless he shares his films.
Genius, wasn't aware that Diaz-Balart was on the School Board.
Ugh it nauseates me to say but Logan.
Scuse me while I go vomit.
Sorry, the bad ones all blend together after awhile:
Diaz Balart's are the OTHER BROTHERS...
I meant to say:
Renier Diaz de la Portilla
District 5
Anonymous above who said...

Comments don't mean a story is popular. Our technical and informative posts leave little left to say. Our traffic to a story is not determined by amount comments. But hey, I hoped this post would be fun and I am glad some of you are enjoying it. When Scott Galvin won last year he said:
I want to personally thank you for selecting me as the winner of the "Best Looking" contest...LOL....this certainly ranks as one of the greatest honors of my political career.
In fact, it might be the only honor....unless I count being selected runner-up of the 2002 Miss North Miami Jaycees contest.
Either way, I will work hard to represent the ideals and traditions that this title represents! Many thanks!
North Miami Councilman Scott Galvin - December 06, 2007
Fresen for me!
Oscar for ze boyz.
Yolly for de girrrlz.
validation: boily. alsome!
Carlos Alvarez hands down.
Alvarez
Fresen
Alvarez,definitely
Diaz
hey out of sight -- you voted twice! cheating?
Oscar Braynon would be my first choice.
Second: Carlos Alvarez
Third: Rivas Logan
Fourth: Yolly Roberson
Fifth: Manny Diaz
Sixth: Erik Fresen
Thanks...
The Alcalde Fuerte - Alvarez
m's wife
hmmm. Can you accept that I am forgetful? It is hell to be old.
OMG "M" has a wife! 2 not a moderates are voting!
OMG M has a wife! AND, out of sight, your vote changed during your lapse but you are forgiven.
The best looking politician in Miami-Dade is not on the list- His name is Alex Diaz de la Portilla hands down...
yeah, uh, how do people forget about the corruption, land misuse, eminent domain, etc. etc from City of Miami folk?
even without all that... it's Braynon.
OScar Braynon takes this one easily!
Diaz and Braynon
Vote for Alvarez
Braynon hands down...look at that perfect facial symmetry!
OMG how could M have a wife????
You have got to be kidding about Alex Diaz de la Portilla. Besides, even if he had been good looking enough, he has too many parts to his name (5), which would have disqualified him automatically as too hard to remember.
My wife is a liberal. But we make the mixed marriage work.
M
NO CONTEST! Braynon should be on the cover of GQ every month!
