An Open Letter from Activist, Panagioti Tsolkas. By Geniusofdespair

At the February protest, sheriff's deputies arrested 27 protesters, some of whom used tubes and duct tape to link their arms and then lay in a ring at the entrance to the rock mining company Palm Beach Aggregates. The protest blocked trucks attempting to enter the site and stalled traffic through much of Wellington. - Palm Beach Post

In 2005 Panagioti and five friends erected a 25-foot-tall tripod in the middle of Dixie Highway and tied up downtown traffic for an hour. Angry that the city had approved plans for developer Gary Koolik to build a six-story luxury condo called the Lucerne on the town's quaint main drag, Panagioti Tsolkas climbed up a rope ladder into a hammock at the tripod's apex. Then he pulled up the ladder and hung two banners that read, "Urban Renewal Without Removal: No Luxury Condos" and "Developers will not control our city: No Lucerne." - Broward New Times

Panagioti Tsolkas is behind many of the best protests in Florida, like the two above. Here is another he is going to trial for this week, this time nuclear power plant business:

The Letter: This week begins the final round of trials for the people arrested blockading FPL's WCEC power plant construction in February. On trial are 8 local community activists, including the PBCEC co-chair (me).

We will be presenting a necessity defense with scientific expert testimony on impacts to the Everglades and the global climate. For more info on pleading 'necessity' check out a recent victory in this link:

Our Monday night meeting at the Quaker meeting house 12/1, 7pm (823 North A Street, Lake Worth) will be focused on updates around updates about the legal challenges surrounding the power plant and pipeline. Multiple arrestees, along with our expert witness Dr. Bacchus, will be present to answer questions about the 'criminal' trial. We will also discuss the upcoming 'Everglades Uprising' camp over New Years that is being hosted by Everglades Earth First!, which we are participating in (www.evergladesearthfirst.org)

We are asking for public support in the courtroom during trial. If you can only make one day, WE ASK FOR YOUR PRESENCE ON WEDNESDAY 12/3 at the downtown West Palm courthouse, between the hours of 10am and 4pm. The courtroom is yet unknown, but we will likely be on the 9th floor. If you can not make the monday meeting, please call us for the exact room number, 561-588-9666.

hope to see you this week (maybe twice!)

We need activists to fight our battles for us because most of us would not do what they do to expose bad ideas. Of course there are sometimes that I disagree with them, but, none of us can be right all the time. (except me)
