The public is going to get screwed once again. The Miami Herald asks, Who should pay for Turkey Point shutdown? FPL or you? We all know the answer to that one on this blog: FPL! The Herald reported:“In March 2006, a tiny hole -- a mere one-eighth of an inch -- was discovered in a CRITICAL pipe at the Turkey Point nuclear power plant. The hole ended up costing at least $6 million. This week, a heated debate has been going on in Tallahassee about who should pay the $6 million -- Florida Power & Light or its customers.”
Here is the corker:
“New information obtained by state regulators shows that the prime suspect in the case was a contract employee who drilled the hole because he was angry with the utility. According to a federal document, he had failed an FPL psychological test and had a criminal background that included charges of criminal mischief.”
Worse, another worker knew about the drill hole and came forward only after the $6,000,000 was spent. So FP&L does not do its due diligence when hiring (sending liars and wacko's with criminal records into a nuclear power plant) and they think we should foot the bill? I don’t think so FP&L. Why did you not do background checks on your staff at a nuclear facility? How dare you toy with the safety of Miami Dade residents? Are you utility people insane?

Wake UP, South Dade! FPL has been approved to produce more nuclear power in the EXISTING plants and is doing the lobbying for 2 NEW ones there. While they claim that the new application is not on the table as yet... it's coming.
The State Utility Regulatory Commission held a meeting some time ago about the new plants and did not turn FPL's request away. I think that it was a calculated plan to hold the meeting in Downtown Miami about 45 miles from the plant. It was the equivalent of a secret meeting for the 1000's of people living in the "circle of doom" around the nuclear site. As sure as I am sitting here, most of those folks had no clue about that meeting, nor could they attend a long meeting mid-day in downtown Miami with their jobs and children in school. That was a page right out of the Miami-Dade County play book.
If Nathan Skop doesnt sleep well at night, I dont either. (from article: He said that if he weren't a commissioner, he'd write a letter to the NRC complaining, ``Hey, there's a problem here. A second person knew about a hole in a nuclear pipe and he didn't tell anyone? And the NRC is not concerned about that? Then frankly, they're not doing their job. Didn't FPL JUST report ridiculous profits? Arent they already approved to charge the public BILLIONS for two new nuclear reactors? The Office Of Public Council should be thanked for raising this issue but if the PSC passes this off to Floridians - I'm leaving! Enough is enough.
Didn't they JUST report 45% increase in profits this quarter? Arent' they already sucking the public dry? THeir Turkey Point expansion will already raise our bills $44 a month by 2017. DISGUSTING
Well, it finally dawns on people, when they have to reach into their pocket, that all is not right on the yellow brick road to Turkey Point!!
FP&L would be smart to absorb this cost lest the people wake up and revolt and finally take notice of what the F--K they are doing.

I believe it is more like "the public is going to get drilled again". If they can't drill in the bay, they will drill us in the bank accounts with the support of our governments.
But it doesn't really matter, we are going to lose out one way or another. I just don't want it to be our lives.
This one member of "the swarm" wonders how Nathan Skop sleeps well at night too, about Turkey Point and also about the proposed Levy County nuclear plants. In addition, those new nukes in Levy County are only a few miles away from the Crystal River nuclear plant. Do you think Skop worries about the people who live in between the two sites????
