The Swing Vote: County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa. By Geniusofdespair

Rebeca (yes it is one “C”) is the County Commission’s Sandra Day O’Connor. She sometimes votes with the unreformable majority (Seijas, Martinez, Diaz, Martinez, Rolle, Souto, Edmonson and Jordan) to give them the super majority they need on urban development boundary (UDB) issues.

What do I know about her? She has a nice singing voice, she used to be a teacher and she dresses flamboyantly, often wearing chiffon overlays on the County Commission dais. Although we have reported 182 times on Vile Natacha Seijas, Sosa has garnered only 5 mentions. That is probably a good thing for her. I am told she will actually meet with you, not pawn you off on aides. Anyway, Matthew Haggman reported (see post 3 below with links to his columns) that she said she would NOT vote for the mega residential development, Parkland, and that might be enough to kill it. But, she did change an expected NO vote at the last UDB hearing. I am told the presence of State Senator Alex Villabobos at the meeting clenched the “Yes” vote she registered. Or did lobbyists hammer on her? Who knows. Did I mention she could sing?

Sosa is all too familiar with homeowners with flooding issues, she would go out to help flooded neighbors when she was the Mayor of West Miami. I don't think she wants to vote for putting homes in flood prone areas.
