The Rufus Wainwright Concert at the Fillmore In Miami Beach. By Geniusofdespair

First let me say the venue sucks - The Fillmore is tacky. Whether it is the lighting or the funky theatre, you just can't see well there. I would rather go to the Arsht Center for concerts any day.

Now you have to understand, I am a big fan of Rufus (love his sister Martha too). His rendition of the Leonard Cohen song “Everybody Knows” is one of my favorite songs...but I didn’t enjoy the concert on Saturday. He writes a lot of his own songs and too many of them sound the same and not having a back-up band underscored the sameness. Backing up himself also repressed his flamboyant stage presence. He should have interspersed his songs with songs by others, like his rendition of Across the Universe from the Movie I Am Sam, so there would have been more variety. I will never go to another of his concerts. And — I still can’t believe this — he did not sing Everybody Knows! Damn and double damn.

The video is interesting, never heard of him before.

Caught him at the old Billboard Live on South Beach 4-5 years ago and loved it.

Totally agree about too many of his songs sounding the same. And also, that he is becoming a caricature of himself as a performer. I think he is a really talented artist and needs to take a big, big, big step back from the direction he's pointed in. His talent speaks for himself without being all dressed up.

He was not dressed up at the concert. Well, the pants were sort of pink, but I don't think he looked dressed up. He wasn't wearing the heels I had heard about.

I got this photo from the Across the Universe video...i took a clip, great video.
