Our New President Elect: Barack Obama. By Geniusofdespair
I went to Gulfstream Park to celebrate with thousands of others.
3,719,917 people in Florida voted for President Elect Obama who ran a flawless campaign. Miami Dade County voted 57.95% for him (41.58% for McCain). Out of 1,245,138 registered voters, 819,043 people voted in Miami Dade County (65.78% of registered voters). That sort of sucks. You would think at least 80% would have voted in this important election. We have a lot of slackers in this County, however, Palm Beach has more: they only had a 58.3% turnout. The State of Florida had a 69.4% turnout, that sucks too.
Anyway, the people of Florida have spoken and they go with the majority of their countrymen!

65.78% is not amazing at all, but at least it's an improvement, and we can only hope that as people see the value of their vote and the momentum of this movement, they become more active, engaged, responsible citizens.
that's asking alot, right?
but more importantly....
GOOOOOOOOOOOOBAMA!
I’m not surprised on the turnout number. It may be really be much higher. A number of years ago we obtained a list of registered voters for an area in south dade and you would be amazed at the number of errors were in the list. At many addresses there were listings for people who had long ago moved from that address. I would bet that the number of registered voters is inflated by 10% or more.
Congratulations to our Country's new President.
Sen. McCain, you're still a hero in my book. The other guy just ran a better campaign and rode the wave of Bush hatred.
To our new President: Please don't make that hard left hand turn. If you govern from the center, maybe we can all get along.

Agree 10000000000% with last anon.... There is no mandate, so, don't make the mistake that Bush made and govern as if you have a mandate... Those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
sorry--change is coming, and people apparently want it. so arguing that we should keep the status quo is just asking for more Bush.
no thank you.
Genius of Despair,
Your friend up north wanted to tell you that I'd been volunteering with the campaign (focused on getting out the vote in Indiana...CHECK!)
also note that a certain Puffin was linked to by the New York Times.
Eye on Miami rocks! Keep up the good work.
Looked at your New York Times link. We love our New York readers Puffin and thanks for the good word on our blog.
