The Miami Herald has been reviewing the candidates running for Congress. That, they got right. People should be able to read an impartial, informational article about the candidates, Mario Diaz-Balart and Joe Garcia. By the way, it appears on the Herald website that Garcia got short-changed in the link (see graphic at left), the paper itself gave them even weight which I like better. What is with the bigger font and the blurb on the website for Mario, which Joe didn't get?
The Herald got it wrong by endorsing a candidate in this race, District 25, in the same issue. My God Herald, give the people a chance to digest the other article, maybe they would have formed their own opinion.

Herald made a mistake by not endorsing Joe Garcia. He is blunt and forthright. Sometimes painfully so.
Joe, whom I have met several times in different venues, never fails to hit the nail on the head about the issues. Not that he is just "schooled" in the issues and parroting what he learned, he is laying the issues on the table to mulled over and knocked around.
Mario is too cocky to speak to his constituents, not to mention serve the non-Hispanic population, whom he sees only during election cycles. Mario's election staff responds to emails when a constituent can't get a response from his congressional actual staff, why is that?
The Balart twin-think-a-likes are jointed at the hip, kinda like the Bullards for those of you interested in state politics. That is not the kind of politics I want, thank you. If I want my politicians joined at the hip, I will head south to Cuba or south America. I prefer my politicians to be able to stand on their own two feet and think for the community as whole. There should be more to being an elected official that district lines. Maybe districts are the cause of divisive government?
I think the Herald execs are still punishing the CANF for past behavior, not that the DB's represented any different.
I agree, Garcia is the better candidate.
Call me an elitist or whatever you want but I want the guy representing me in Congress to at least have a college degree.
I would understand some poor boy from Little Havana not having a degree but DiazBalart has no excuse.
Joe is the best candidate. As a college student, I feel embarrased that the man representing me in congress has less education than I do. It's embarrasing and it's a disgrace. Let's give Joe a chance. What's the big deal? If he sucks, we get him out in 2 years!!! Enough with this family dynasty bullshit. p.s. everyone knows that the Herald is biased and is bought off by the Diaz-Ballarts. A very prominent writer at the Herald was dismissed a couple of months ago for writing the TRUTH about the Diaz-Ballarts and the funds Mario is collecting.
However, the Herald endorsed Raul Martinez over Lincoln Diaz Balart so scratch your theory.
I am uncomfortable with the Republican machine down here. I hope Raul and Joe both get it. We need a few checks and balances.
To the posters about college degrees: Andrew Jackson, Abe Lincoln, and 6 other US Presidents never graduated from college. So you see, a college degree does not make a person. It helps, but it does not define the person.
Barbara is just another koolaid drinking college student for Joe Garcia, and yes Obama. You can sense the bitterness in her post---another unhappy person.
Don't single out our readers, make your own point. Our readers are entitled to their opinions.

I think the college student has a right to look at her elected official's education if that is a criteria she choses to use to weigh the way she votes.
Barbara sounded like a thoughtful young lady and it is great that she is even interested in the details of the political scene at her age.
She obviously decided that Joe Garcia's degree was pertinent in her selection of him. And that is what voting is about. Picking your candidate.
The only president since 1897 to not have a college degree was Harry Truman.
Harry? He seemed pretty smart.
