John McCain at Everglades Lumber... by gimleteye

Thanks to our readers who set me straight on this: it is edited to reflect that Sergio Pino, prominent Republican campaign contributor, is not the current owner of Everglades Lumber.

John McCain showed up this morning for a rally in West Dade at Everglades Lumber, formerly owned by prominent Republican campaign contributor, lobbyist, and sprawl builder Sergio Pino. WLRN reported a rare Jeb Bush sighting. Pino and other Bush loyalists like Ed Easton are pushing for the expansion of the Urban Development Boundary for Lennar's Parkland project and, also, to build a massive rock mine to carry the costs of land speculation at an adjacent property on the other side of Krome Avenue. On October 24, Pino told the Daily Business Review that he "is no longer a major political donor." No joke.

According to a print news report, Everglades Lumber has layed off 50 workers. I am guessing none of the workers are aware how the financial derivatives tied to mortgages--and massive foreclosures and crashing housing values--tie directly to the effort by banking industry lobbyists to throttle regulation.

Anyhow, here is a photo of the US Century Homebuilders showroom, (see recent photo in our Sept. 14th Post), owned by one of Pino's companies, that was Bush campaign headquarters in 2004, here on LeJeune Road in Miami.
