98 Million Dollar Mercy Hospital Land Deal Dead. By Geniusofdespair

The Miami Herald reported today that Mercy Hospital, after twice losing in court, has abandoned plans to build a controversial condo project on its property. We reported on this issue and the developer, Jorge Perez/Related Group,
a number of times, including September 1, 2007. You might remember these are the 3 towers that were slated next to Vizcaya.

The defeat of the Mercy/Related Luxury Condo project and the illegal spot zoning of Coconut Grove is a big victory for the Grove and Miami.

How sad that we have to keep going to court to get justice from our own elected leaders.

It is a shame that so much effort, time, money and aggravation had to be invested to receive justice from our very own government.

Commissioners Sanchez, Gonzalez and Spence-Jones should be fired or fined for voting on this illegal spot zoning.

Mayor Manny Diaz should be dismissed or resign in shamed for his support of this illegal effort.
Developers be advised that business as usual is no longer the norm. - Harry Emilio Gottlieb

What a shame that the economy has to be wrecked for common sense to prevail. We'll see what happens with the idiocy called Parkland; in light of this development (non-development) it should be clear that the only purpose of going through the rezoning (DRI) outside the Urban Development Boundary is to lift the spirits of land speculators who bought at the top of the market.
