The County Commissioner Who Would Be King: Bruno Barreiro. By Geniusofdespair

According to Miami Today Proposed ordinance would expand Miami-Dade County commission chairman's powers. That is how the County Commission works, ordinance by ordinance they destroy our charter. Here is but one more power grab on tomorrow's agenda. It might backfire since almost every Commissioner wants to be Chair so I do not think they will appreciate the elimination of term limits for the Chair that Bruno, the Chair, is proposing. It would take 7 votes to unseat him under Bruno’s new plan. Right now the Chair serves for 2 years and cannot be reelected.

There are other changes in this ordinance, among them:

“...waive a measure requiring committee consideration on certain legislative items”
“ ...tweak the 4 day rule” and
“Would allow certain items to be placed directly on a full commission agenda rather than sent to committee first, including building and zoning moratoria and applications to amend the County’s Comprehensive Development Master Plan.”

What does this all mean? If it is a change proposed by one of the “unreformable majority” (which Bruno is a member of) on the County Commission it is usually 99.9% always bad.

P.S. I finally figured out how to spell his name. Doesn’t go by the rule “I before E except after C.”

He doesn't want to be King,he wants to be a dictator.

If I put him jokingly as a dictator who sports jogging outfits -- this blog would get shut down immediately. Sense of humors only go so far.
