Herald Columnist Marquez Says County Commissioners "Spit on Voters". By Geniusofdespair

Totally agree with Myriam Marquez’s column about the County Commission, in today’s Miami Herald: Bigger salary unwise without term limits.

She says:

"The Miami-Dade Commission had a chance to embrace good government last month. Instead it spit on voters.

Commissioners refused to make petition drives easier or to have voters -- instead of commissioners -- dictate future petition rules. They snubbed term limits for themselves. Gave developers a wink and nod by refusing to make it tougher to build beyond the county's urban boundary."

And, she spoke to Victor Diaz, Jr. who chaired the Charter Review Task Force, who said:

"This really disillusioned me about this government reforming itself, and really convinced me that only through grass-roots efforts -- a movement that is well-funded -- will there be fundamental reform in county government."

I think it is up to us now citizens! We have to do the grass-roots thing as Victor Diaz suggests. We need the funding so everyone has to step up to the plate. When we, or others, have a PAC to collect funds I will let you know. This has to be a focused effort so don't all go out and form PAC's. We need to be organized.

It is truly a pleasure when a new Herald columnist is so bright. I guess I better keep my subscription after all.

I e-mailed her last week because I have been super impressed with pretty much every single column she's put out. I hope she keeps it up. When you are set with your PAC and when the organization gets going, I definitely think she needs to be contacted.
