GOP Convention: "You're doing a heckuva job, Brownie", by gimleteye

Who remembers how Republican minister Pat Robertson warned Orlando's gays not to wave their pride in God's face? (700 Club, August 9, 1998) "You're right in the way of some serious hurricanes," Reverend Robertson quavered, leading some Republicans to wonder if it really was Ellen Degeneres who brought on Hurricane Katrina.

This time, not even a field mouse will be in New Orleans unless it is in a National Guard uniform: not on the eve of the GOP convention with memories of the failed Republican response to Hurricane Katrina ricocheting around the house. Talking about stealing thunder.

What a coincidence that Hurricane Gus is bearing down on New Orleans, three years to the day after Katrina; or, is it the hand of God?

According to The Miami Herald headline this morning, "It's the GOP's turn to showcase its party's nominee, and Florida Republicans say they'll do so without the distractions that plagued the Democrats." No. The Republicans have a destructive hurricane.

If Pat Robertson was right, a nation that gives choice to women and elevates gays to the status of humans deserves natural disasters, what message could Hurricane Gus be sending American voters? Could this hurricane be God's wrath at Republicans for squandering American treasure, driving the economy onto the shoals, and abandoning conservative values?

I'm not saying so, until I hear from Pat Robertson.

How about hearing it from the former DNC chairman that "God is on our side".

Here's a storm comment that should be spread throughout Florida:

Dan Fowler, former chairman of the DNC is joking about what a great thing it is that a hurricane is hitting New Orleans while the GOP convention is on. "God is on our side" is a quote.

Do you think that he would feel any different about it if Florida was getting hit?

Mr. Cargosquid:

What is a nice boy from the blog: United Conservatives of Virginia doing on a blog like this in Miami? Karl Roving for liberals?

The Republican VP is a clone of Anita Bryant, except she probably does not believe in cloning. Anita almost ruined the orange juice industry with her hatred of gays, abortion, birth control, the environment and all things she declared not Crist-like. Scary that these ultra-christians are so full of hate and pray for hurricanes to prove to us God's rath.

The United States economy has grown faster, on average, under Democratic presidents than under Republicans.
The stark contrast between the whiz-bang Clinton years and the dreary Bush years is familiar because it is so recent. But while it is extreme, it is not atypical. Data for the whole period from 1948 to 2007, ... show average annual growth of real gross national product of 1.64 percent per capita under Republican presidents versus 2.78 percent under Democrats.
That 1.14-point difference, if maintained for eight years, would yield 9.33 percent more income per person, which is a lot more than almost anyone can expect from a tax cut.

Weren't the Republicans praying for a storm and rain during the convention. Guess they were so busy praying they forgot to mention which convention.

Catch a roving conservative: I live in Miami and I agree with cargosquid. Why don't you answer cargosquid's substantive post? Oh I know!It is easier just to avoid it. Gimeleye:I cannot believe you have to drag up a comment made in 1998 to try to put down the GOP when you have this recent democrat's statement about God being on their side! Really you must be desperate. And petty. Stick to the issues and maybe you will be more credible.
