Lourdes Aguirre Running Against The Mean Queen, Natacha Seijas. By Geniusofdespair

I heard Lourdes speak on the Miami Law Show this afternoon so I looked up her website. Two positions she outlined there would make me want to vote for her:

Reinstate permits for rock mining
Rock mining is destroying the quality of life and property of the Town of Miami Lakes residents. I will fight to stop rock mining without requiring permits and public hearings - the Miami-Dade County Commission did away with permits to favor the rock mining industry, against the best interests of the residents. The residents of Miami Lakes deserve the right to protect their property and should be given public hearings to voice their thoughts on rock mining in their back yards.

Stop the expansion of the Urban Development Boundary
Growth management and REAL urban planning needs to be part of our Master Development Plan. We cannot continue to encroach on our water supply and natural resources and expand beyond the Urban Development Boundary. We have enough available land in Miami-Dade County to be able to adopt a policy of Smart Growth and Urban Infill that provides housing that is affordable, protects current residents from incompatible development next to their homes, and promotes a better quality of life in our community.

Of course she also has one very obvious advantage: She is not the Vile Natacha Seijas. Also she is easy on the eyes which would make watching the meetings less painful. I will endorse her for District 13. Tell all your friends in Hialeah and Miami Lakes to vote for her August 26th.

No question she is better for the job. The best way to help would be if every one would send her a contribution as elections are decided on money.

Not only is Lourdes all of the above but she has been active in charities delivering social services in Hialeah for some time. Hell, just the fact that Vile is threatening and investigating her is reason enough to vote for her. She has my vote and my donation.

Has Lourdes and her supporters signed Florida Hometown Democracy petitions? Need to Know wants to know if she practices what she preaches.

"...protects current residents from incompatible development next to their homes..." Sounds like a NIMBY statement to me. If you support holding the line, that so-called 'incompatible development' has to happen next to someone's house. Advocating smart growth is not about stopping development. Typically, people use that tag line as a way of scaring people against development. I would be weary of trading the devil we know for the one we don't.

Then again, anyone would be better than V.N.S.

you've got that right Tony, I would vote for anyone just about...maybe not Cheney or Bush -- Natacha might be a tradeoff with them.

I just made a contribution to her campaign. Go to www.lourdesaguirre13.org/donations.html. We desperately need to change our county commission, and what better way to start than to get rid of the worst of them all!

I agree with the candidate's statement to "protect current residents from incompatible development next to their homes". Nobody wants a 20 story building next to their home - that's not NIMBY, it's common sense which is so rare in the minds of the residential developers. I agree with higher density development in land that is next to metrorail or next to shopping centers, for example.

May the people of Hialeah wake from their long sleep and elect Lourdes. What a gift that would be to the people of Miami Dade and Florida.

Lourdes should pin the housing mess where it belongs: on incumbents like Natacha who have worked day and night to turn County Hall into a one-stop-shop for privileged insiders who live in gated communities in Coral Gables and Pinecrest and South Miami.

PLEASE WIN!

Stop looking at her tits and look at the strings that are tied to her. This is another pawn in the Michael Pizzi quest to remove Natacha from power. It's almost like the Wonder Twins (no pun intended) and she's the female version of Pizzi. He can't find any other way to unseat Natacha that he has to send a woman to fight his battle. I'm sure he's given up his man-crush on Mayor Alvarez after he came out and supported Natacha. Don't confuse what you call good looks with talent. I'd rather vote for the lesser of two evils.

Geniusofdespair said...

So then you are not voting for Natacha. The lesser of two evils is certainly not Natacha.

Meshugennah is a Natacha plant posing as a Yiddish princess.

Anonymous said...

LOL. No plant or princess, but someone that would like to see real challengers and not proped up ones by people who have it out for her. I apologize if I used the wrong figure of speech, but like Tony Garcia said a few posts before, between the two devils presented, I'd rather keep the one we know.

Geniusofdespair said...

You have got to be kidding. Really, no one on this blog could ever say something like that. The devil you know is the devil. The one we are contemplating is right on TWO BIG ISSUES Natacha thumbs her big fat nose at. So the woman we do not know, is better.

Wait wait wait, I didn't exactly say that I support VNS. Lets get that straight. I should be clear: I think she is a total moron. That being said, I do have reservations about someone who might not have any clue as to how County government runs, or says things that smack of NIMBY. I am a transit and smart growth advocate, so I understand that development is going to happen, we just don't want to expand the UDB to do it. That will create situations where there are large buildings next to small buildings. If she is intent on protecting suburban neighborhoods from the 'evils' of density and mixed use, then no I am not for her either. You can't be against expanding the UDB, and not allow that development to happen within our existing cities at the same time. Development has to happen in someone's back yard. The fact is that most of the land development regulations in Dade county allow 20 story buildings next to single family houses. That is a function of what the code allows, not what developers lobby for. If she is for real, maybe she can start by looking at the code rewrite and making it a legit smartcode.

GoD and Tony,

You both make very good points and GoD, believe me when I say I'm a big fan of the stuff you write here. I might not even vote because I agree they both have their issues. But let's be honest, County Hall isn't a place to cut your teeth. And I'm not certain how much of her stances, which are very important, are her own ideas. You never know, she may do a great job after all, but the NIMBY issues need to be addressed on her part.

Shes got my vote, but the sad thing is Ive never voted for VNS but these elderly cubans just keep electing her!

Geniusofdespair said...

Lourdes is in fact a developer --- within the UDB line. It is not as if she was trained in the nimby school of growth.

Cutting your teeth at the County...well no one with any strong background will run for $6,000 a year and having to raise hundred's of thousands for a campaign. A naive newcomer is sometimes all you will get. They don't know the odds they are up against. However, if they use county staff wisely, they can gain knowledge and get up to speed very quickly. They also can hire good staff people.

If you have a gripe against Pizzi, take it out against Pizzi, I don't think this woman is anyone's puppet. We have to get ride of the County Puppeteer: Natacha. Maybe it will make Edmonson and Barriero better commissioners not to have her meddling all the time. Maybe they will start at least trying to think for themselves.

Has anyone heard of sustainability? Maybe we CAN'T build anymore- smart or otherwise. We have limited resources, water for example and limited infrastructure. We need to start saying "no" in my backyard and in your backyard.

People are always saying someone should run against commissioners.

Here we have someone who is running against a very bad commissioner and because the commissioner HAS BEEN IN OFFICE, you are giving her an advantage for that?

Having been in office so long makes them less attractive to me because they have made all those unsavory connections.

i am not sure I would call Aguirre pretty, but she sure beats Natacha on that front.
