We have been running a lot of Guest Blogs which I think is a positive move for EyeonMiami. Many times Gimleteye and I do not agree on issues. The same goes for Guest Bloggers, we might not agree with their position. I have been following Mom4Edu and the letters in response and I must admit, I am still learning the Ed issues.
This is a forum for different ideas, as long as people don't become annoying presenting them.

Do you think the school board or admininstration reads this blog yet?
Do you know if anyone is digging into the Everglades deal ala your digging into property tax records?
I do think some school board members read the blog...some might not know how to use a computer.
i was so happy to see that finally the school board is being discussed. and i truly hope the members are reading this, although i agree GOD, some might not even know how to get on here. pathetic.
i think education is one of, if not the most important issue and is the most often overlooked!
we need to make it common knowledge what happens in those meetings and get the public informed.
this is affecting the children! not to mention all the mdcps employees.
heard thru the grapevine that the people that were "laid off" as of june 30th for the duration of the summer are already being called in by schools and begged to help out, without pay or even a gas/mileage reimbursement. this is outrageous!
I certainly hope you continue with the education topics...too much is at risk!

It does not take digging to find property records. You go to the county web site and the property appraiser's department.
If you want to find other things, I suppose you look in closets.
You can always file a freedom of information request. as to the board reading the blog, not only are some unable to use a computer but I believe some cannot read.
Genius---Michael Putney played an apologist role for Crew, like the op-ed piece in yesterday's paper written by Robin Reiter, and what the Herald in general has been doing. Crew has not been put to task by the Herald, only Alvarado has done it-kudos to him.

You know what, I am not so sure about blaming Crew --- you are all attacking the messenger. He didn't unfund schools. That twit Rubio is getting proclamations from Coral Gables and he and his pals at the State were instrumental in causing the problem. How the hell do you expect anyone to cut $275 million from a budget already stretched to the max? You are nuts if you think he can do it without stepping on a lot of toes and creating an angry atmosphere.
Can you all look at the bigger picture?
It is like someone took your stapler and you are focused on the staples. Look Bigger, Look Wider...if there weren't so many greedy people out there the schools would be funded...and let's face it, people only care about the charter schools their kids attend...they couldn't care less about schools for all students.

Gimenez is testy and so is Crew. They lack patience...they don't have people skills when they are trying to get the work done at hand. It is obvious...they are not kissy, make nice, diplomatic guys....
I do see that side of Crew...but I don't like some people on that Board and I wouldn't be sucking up to them either...some are shrill, some are dumb...If you want him to ax the budget, let him do his job.
The fact that the District has to cut as much as it does- $286 million is not all due to the legislature. According to Marta Perez the reduction from the legislature is only $76 million. How did we get into such a deficit? Crew has been deficit spending for several years now and the 5 person majority he enjoyed just rubber stamped him all the way.

Do we really need a school board? The national trend says "no." Read the statistics. Not having one would more than meet the shortfall in the budget. The politicization of education would be far less. If the reason they exist is to give parents power and access, the PTA organization does is better without public funds.

Still no proposed budget for the school year has been presented to the teachers union. How can negotiations be conducted. Seems like Crew and his hatchet people are "basting the pig for a roast".
Maybe we should sell the school system to the Seminoles...Rudy and all.
