Whilly Bermudez Challenges Bully Commissioner Joe Martinez. By Geniusofdespair

New Kid on the Block: Whilly Bermudez is giving it a go against County Commission Wise Guy, Joe Martinez (hit on DeFede video link on the right of this page to see Joe in action). The good thing: Whilly would offer a young voice on the County Commission, he is 31. Some of what he calls “his initiatives” show his inexperience with running a campaign, they made me wince (A Walt Disney World Miami??). He needs a seasoned veteran to help with his message or the lobbyists will groom him. But, hey, he has the guts to go against one of the most powerful politicians in the County and that counts for something. More photos:

The best thing about Whilly is: He is not Joe!

If he can get off of the chamber bandwagon, he could be a viable candidate. He needs to look at each communities' strengths and emphasize those instead of pushing for Disneyzoos, development, Wallyworlds, more tourists and parks any ole place. The chambers, in general, are not very respected today, their opposition to Florida Hometown Democracy being one big tarnish. Chambers do not work for the little guy but for business, the bigger the better. Better get informed and change your message Willy, maybe you will have a shot!

It could be that Whilly is just a stalking horse, to prevent another more credible challenger to Martinez from emerging-- the thought being that another challenger would split the disaffected vote from upsetting Martinez. I'm hoping for someone with brains and bucks to emerge in that district. Martinez would be gone, in a heartbeat.

When you call Martinez "Wise" I am pretty confident you don't mean it as smart, but more like the mafia "wise."

Im district 11. I think this young guy has a shot to overthrow Martinez. He may in fact be the sleeper that weve been waiting on.
I like his ideas and hes got some balls. He doesnt care to take on the developers to keep the UBD from moving. Hes also willing to vote for term limits which we desperately need.

The guy doesnt owe anyone anything and is paying attention to our concerns.

I like Whilly Bermudez for August 26.

OOHHHHHHH OHHHHHHH HANGING TOUGH!

Mayor Carlos Alvarez should endorse this young man. This will give him a boost against Martinez the tyrant!

Sorry guys. Alvarez has already committed to Joe that he is not going to endorse anyone running against him. Joe is going to run for Mayor in 2012, so far, against Rebecca Sosa.

Sosa brokered a deal with her "god-son" Marco Rubio, to "keep him" from running against Alvarez this year. I put it in quotes because the conventional wisdom is that Becca and Marco created this idea that Marco would run for Mayor to manufacture a compromise that would commit the Mayor into supporting Becca when the time comes...

Interesting...The Mayor hates Martinez guts. More importantly..Joe has ZERO chance for Miami Dade Mayor..now, 2012, or ever. I think that his seat right now isnt secure...

Lets see what happens on election day people.

Lets sack Joe right out of office. He can take his RV with him! (Although we paid for it) Lets give this candidate an opportunity to serve without loyalty to the builders. Can someone powerful step up and get in his corner? Can we form some type of coalition to help with his fundraising?

If we really wanted to take back District 11 and send a message to the incumbents, developers - we would! We should!

The kid's going to have to work his butt off. He's only got $4,000 in the bank.

There's another challenger in the race too with about as much cash on hand.

Two challengers split the "anti-joe" vote and neither of them have the cash to mount a real challenge.

If you really want to see someone else prevail, someone's going to have to crank out the checks.

The good news is that the average contribution to either campaign is around $150 - telling that almost all of joe's checks are maxed out at $500.

This kid has got to get a message. He has the worst message right now...it shows he is not ready for office. If he is friends with the former city of Miami Mayor Suarez, as he says, he should trot over there TODAY with his campaign literature and have a heart to heart talk with Suarez. HE HAS TO DO THIS.

Whilly Bermudez is the little train that could!

G.O.D we value your opinion but I know alot of us that really like this candidate & his "message". I think that hes the one we should invest in. He is where our votes should go! Hes got courage that if elected, hell stand up to the rest of the commissioners too. Xavier Suarez has the nickname of " el loco" and W.B. doesnt need that.

Weve heard how he stands on some of our local issues and hes right on. I know that no one can predict an election but this guy has a solid chance of overthrowing Martinez. We should focus on that and throw him some bones.

In all honesty, I find myself visiting this site and the herald only to keep tabs on this District 11 race. We want and need Joe "Napoleon" Martinez OUT! Bermudez can.

Get rid of Martinez! PLEASE!

If you want to get money from campaign contributors you need a better message. Oh, I know, you don't need money. El Loco is as smart as a fox...don't belive the hype....what is he a Harvard grad? He knows about campaigns. Don't listen to me, just go on with your rah rah stuff and remember: If you don't listen you can't hear.

Stronger than steel possibility that Bermudez will take Martinez to a run off!

Bermudez SI - Martinez NO

Right on!

i am losing patience here. What is wrong with you supporters that you can't write more than three or four words about your candidate. It says a lot. Saying you want Martinez out is not enough...that is good for 20% of the vote...you need more than 20%.

More than four words:

We like this kid. He gives us a good impression. It appears that he has the right intentions, along with good business experience. Campaign experience is not relevant. What he is going to do for the people is far more important that how well groomed he is.

This is our candidate, he is the one we are aligning ourselves with. He is the one we are going to take a chance on. I speak for alot of other folks here in my area and our district. BERMUDEZ is our candidate. This should show in Mr. Moreno's polls ect.

We do love you and your award, but this is our candidate.

Good, we are finally getting somewhere. We want to know why he is your candidate because he also makes decisions for the whole county. We care all over the county.

This is what we in Dist. 11 have been waiting for.
A young man with the smarts, compassion and business experience on the dias.
We need a candidate who aggrees with Term limits & Holding The Line, a young professional with style.
NEW BLOOD!

To give some sort of credibility to this site, I would like to know who Geniusofdespair and Gimleteye are or at least where they live. Its very easy to post anonymous comments or even make up a name but i guess living in the arena is not comfortable for some. I would be happy to post my name if you do!!!
