Greedy Lowe's Home Improvement Store: Hitting Them Where It Hurts. By Geniusofdespair

My washer and dryer were delivered yesterday, taking over $1,000 out of Lowe's pocketbook. I actually shopped in a store I never shop in, Sears. Lowe's would have had my business if not for its insistence on building on S.W. 8th Street, outside the urban development boundary when they have enough land to build within it.

1,000 dollars isn't going to hurt too bad...but at least you did something. If 500 people here in Miami Dade did a 1,000 dollar purchase elsewhere, maybe they would get a message. I bought lightbulbs, and some patio chair ($83) from Home Depot instead of Lowe's. Start adding...

You've influenced at least one out-of-towner to show her support by avoiding Lowe's....not that I need persuasion to stay out of Big Barn-type stores.

I won't stop with Lowe's. They're all destructive, both environmentally and economically. Mega-malls and big box Power Centers not only destroy the appearance of our cities and towns and generate excessive amounts of pavement, but they are almost ALWAYS extensively subsidized by tax monies, either in direct subsides (TIF, etc.), and in indirect assists like ten-year tax abatements, to the destruction of small, local concerns who are thus forced to subsidize their big barn competition through their taxes.

If I can't obtain something from my local Ace franchise- these are individually-owned franchises, or through another locally-owned outlet, I look on E-bay, where I'm both supporting a small business and getting a good deal.

Maybe if everyone boycotts Lowes in Miami-Dade county, their sales will drop and they will learn to listen to the citizens. Their website has information about their "social responsiblity," but it seems they failed us here in Miami-Dade. Moving the UDBL for them was wrong of Miami-Dade commissioners who voted in favor.

Voice your opinion and let Lowes know how you feel.

I hope it was an EnergyStar appliance. The County offers $200 rebates for high-efficiency washers.

If it is and this is news, download the form on the Water department's website. You don't even have to be a County utility customer if you get your water from a city utility.
