In today's Herald they said Edmonson has a challenger: Valria Screen. From her online bio:"Val Screen is an attorney who practices administrative law before city councils, the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners and the Florida Legislature. She also serves as the Development Director for fundraising efforts in support of ongoing restoration and the reopening of Historic Virginia Key Beach Park."
She is a Republican. However, Commissioner Audrey Edmonson has taken up the habit, with Natacha Seijas, of talking loudly every time Katy Sorenson speaks. Audrey has to go. This is a very hard call when you look at Screen's lobbying over the years. Here is that lobbying history:

Damn! Why can't the African American community find some leaders and candidates who are worth supporting?
That said: the theme of this year's election should be-- throw the bums out!

Boy, the woman is well connected! While Edmonson stinks and looks like a zombie during the BCC's hearings, can we at least get a candidate less connected to special interests?
That is always the theme but that only gets you 20% of the vote.
So where has she been the past 3 years? Working for Bush?
Now, now. There's enough blame for Bush in the three trillion dollar war and trillion dollar credit collapse without dragging him into M-D county politics. Here, we only mismanage billions.
I keep insisting elections are rigged in Dade County. Absentee ballots continue to be manipulated by our elected officials to their advantage and citizens are defenseless.
Val is good people, and she has been working very hard at the Virginia Key Trust. If you all haven't been out there lately, you should. She is very close to the Range family, and has a head on her shoulders which is more than I can say about Edmonson.
I would support her over Edmonson.
Edmonson is worse: Look at her campaign contributions....

Edmonson is an idiot. Watch her at meetings, she never has an independent thought. She waits until others speak then says "Commissioner X said what I was going to say" or "I support what Commissioner X said". She never speaks first or offers anything new; in other words she is a puppet and a rude one at that!

It was with some surprise that we learned from The Miami Times "Spreading larceny" section of March 26 that Ms. Valria Screen has entered the political race for the Miami-Dade County Commission seat presently held by commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson. In that news item Ms. Screen was identified with the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust (VKBPT), which she serves well as our very able and supportive Director of Development (fundraising).
Under the circumstances, it becomes incumbent upon us to clarify, for the public record, that Ms. Screen's decision to run for office is a personal one, and does not in any way represent a policy decision by the Trust or any of its members. As a public entity of the City of Miami which serves all citizens, the VKBPT cannot and does not officially promote, endorse, criticize or oppose any candidate(s) for political office, but can only wish well to all.
Please share this clarification with your readers. Thank you for your kind attention to this request.

Val can be more than a little arrogant and full of herself, but at least she has a brain and I believe would stir things up for the better.
Val is an Independent. You would know that if you spoke with her or if you checked. The Herald got that wrong about her. Get your facts straight from the source folks instead of repeating what you see/hear...
District 3 needs help and someone who is going to serve the entire commmunity. I believe CHANGE is good. Attorney Screen is more than qualified and is very well respected for being an independent thinker.
Who is Audrey Edmonson and does she even know that the Haitian community exsist? Had it not been for the unfortunate crane accident she would have never been heard of or even heard from? Please send us somebody with good intentions who is just not occupying the seat given to her by Carey-Shuler.

I just listed WHAT SCREEN HAS RELEASED AS HER BIO AND HER LOBBYIST REPORTS. FACTS SHE SUPPLIED. So if these are wrong it is her that is wrong.
Read another blog --you are too dumb for this one. The fact that she was a lobbyist for so long gives me pause, but I still would support her over Edmonson.
Try the voter registration rolls dude. That is the best source of info regarding party affiliation short of asking the lady. Is digging up old info the hallmark of a "swift" blogger? Do you even know that she has a website, www.valscreen.com? Lift some of that since it is recent/more accurate than what you went looking for.
Screen is the protege of Art Teele, the most corrupt politician this town has ever seen. She has described her relationship with Teele as "the missile launch of my career." Interestingly, there is no mention of Screen's role as Teele's commission aide in the volumnious biography on her website, valscreen.com. Also, if she isn't now a Republican, Screen certainly was a Republican when she ran unsuccessfully for the state legislature in 2002.
thanks to the anon above for the heads up on the teele connection. thats pretty sordid although i didnt think range was much better. i could care less if screen is a republican, its the corruption connection that scares me. its also odd that she has all that info on her website and she doesnt mention her county commission staff experience or her prior run for office. it makes me wonder what else she is hiding.

People are saying you are smart. I heard you speak at Athalie Range's Memorial Service. I like you but how are you going to keep your long history of lobbying-- for just about everything --out of your future political career? The client list worries me...
Also will you hold loud conversations with Natacha Seijas during commission meetings while Katy Sorenson is speaking? If you answer these questions, I will turn it into a post.
I liked Teele (I know, I know) but he was likable and he went through aides like I go through tissues. I think dozens of smart, black and pretty women worked for him at one time.
P.S. Don't crucify this Screen woman on this blog... Take a look at Edmonson. She is in lockstep with the worst on the commission. Anyone know about any independent, good votes from Edmonson that they can share? Does she like paper bags or plastic, what do we know about her?
Again I ask: Which is worse? I say Edmonson so far.
