Rainforest Action Network is planning to protest in Miami on April 5th against dirty power and infrastructure projects funded by the Inter-American Development Bank. For certain, the IADB has had its hand in ruinous relations between the US and Central and South American neighbors, in particular with respect to the destruction of natural resources like the rainforest.
It is easy to empathize, because South Florida has examples springing from everywhere, how big agribusiness and infrastructure serving cities and counties and campaign contributors has turned the Everglades, our rivers and bays, into ghostly remnants picked over for new subdivisions and malls.
Recently, we highlighted the bizarre story that appeared in the Palm Beach Post, of one such company--Palm Beach Aggregates-- whose owner, Michael Klein is a self-described environmentalist, board member and former chair of Rainforest Action Network.
I wonder if Rainforest Action Network would be willing to come to Miami in late April, and protest the moving of the Urban Development Boundary, and applications before the county commission that are supported by the same interests, lobbyists, and law firms that support rock mining in wetlands and nuclear power plants at the edge of a national park.
Charity begins at home.
