I am sick to my stomach because of all the threatened support of Marco Rubio for Mayor of Miami Dade County. Yes, Alvarez is not perfect but he is light years ahead of Marco Rubio. Let’s look at Rubio’s record in Tallahassee. This is all from his House website. First, he has a section "Highlights." There was one entry: He was named Florida Petroleum Marketers Association, Freshman Legislator of the Year.
In 2006 he sponsored 6 Bills:
His bill HB 1125, which thankfully didn’t pass, was to exempt “working papers” of the legislature from public records requirements. So he wanted to limit sunshine — limit our access and that of Newspapers to public records.
House Bill 9089 commended the Men’s Basketball Team of the University of Florida. It was adopted.
He had 3 Eminent Domain bills.
He initiated one good sounding bill HJR 1573 CS that died early on: Equal Opportunity to Obtain a High Quality Education. He co-sponsored 8 bills of which 4 were cormenertaive recognitions like University of Florida Day and Space Day. He also had a bill that honored the legacy of Coretta Scott King.
It is not like he is a Democrat in the House. He actually had a chance to get some good, meaningful bills passed. And speak about follow-through, this was posted by Estate Planner Newsletter (4/2006). I just went to the website mentioned in the Newsletter for Rubio's group and most pages are being constructed. Here is what the Rubio group released:
"In preparation for his term as Speaker, Rep. Rubio, along with two other future Speakers of the House, Rep. Ray Sansom and Rep. Dean Cannon, is in the process of developing a bold vision for the future of Florida. This vision will be outlined in a book titled 100 Innovative Ideas for Florida’s Future. These 100 Innovative Ideas will come from the people of Florida, through Idearaisers or from ideas submitted at www.100ideas.org. In turn, the Representatives have pledged to be held accountable for the results and progress of the ideas in the book.
“A lot of people in Florida feel what happens in Tallahassee and what happens in their lives are not connected,” Rep. Rubio recently told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. He pledges that the book will not be left on a shelf, that the ideas will be relevant to Floridians during the next two decades.
Anyone have a copy of this book? On the "100 Ideas" website under "recent news and events" it says: "News coming soon." The only post on their blog is from Jeb Bush. Hmmm.

Marco Rubio continues the legacy of Jeb Bush and entire American Taliban religous wingnuts.
For God's sake, he backed Huckabee!
I would vote for the vile one for Mayor before I would cast a vote for Rubio for anything.
Please don't make me eat these words:)
Neither Alvarez or Rubio are capable of leading us given the magnitude of problems we are now confronted with. Maybe a hero will come along shortly . . .
Let's try Mr. Levine. At least he's a millionaire willing to donate his Mayor's salary and possibly will not be hungry to accept bribes from developers, lobbyiests and other special interest groups. That we don't know much about him, let's begin to investigate. No more of the same, there must be other qualified people besides the politicians we already know and are fed up with.
People look-Arriola did that in the City of Miami, he donated his salary and what did we get- a disater. Rubio has sold his soul to who knows who, is a Jeb koolaid drinker, and is surrounded by scoundrels. Alvarez may not be the media wizard (telling people what they want to hear)that some of these folks are but he has the best interests of this community at heart. He fights for us behind the scenes and will not sell out Miami-dade. He will not be swayed by the big money and special interests.
Rubio is a master buffoon...This morning the Herald reported (wow the Herald reports) that now he is pandering to the black community. Yep...and he has the audacity to state that this has been working for a while...Sure, it has. Right. We all just missed it in the past, we were not aware.
Alvarez has the best interests of only some the community at heart. Or should I say his buddys? The Friends and Family plan is still in effect and apparently it doesn't matter one iota to the herald.
I would like to see some real people who give a crap about the people living here be elected. I would like to see less ego and more consideration for the community as a whole, not the just the Hialeah for Lunch Bunch. Does it matter that there more than one nationality in this county?
Better yet, how about a government ruling party and its voters where most of them are deaf and blind, then race and accent would not be in play during the elections?
Alvarez is not any different than Rubio. It would be nice to have a viable 3rd choice. And by the way, what was promised that Alvarez got such strong endorsements so early in the campaign? Great political work; get the endorsements before the endorsees have a choice. And do all your fund raising quietly in the first quarter, so you can intimidate anyone who would consider running against you when you publish your first campaign report. Great job.
Given the shape of the county, maybe they need to focus more on county issues and less on remaining in office. And by county issues, I don't mean defending the baseball stadium.
Rubio is now the GAS King.
Rubio pandering to the black community? is that why he is cutting funding to social services so that his buddy can get an expensive concession from the state?
