You Can’t Keep A Good Woman Down by Geniusofdespair

No, I am not talking about Hillary Clinton.

Katy Sorenson is thrown more lemons and makes more lemonade with them than I thought humanly possible. What an unwavering optimist. If you read her column in the Miami Herald today you would think she was part of a good branch of government, not the scandal ridden entity known as Miami Dade County.

I agree with her about the State Government and that fool’s (Marco Rubio) misguided policies, but gee whiz Katy, the County? Is it better? Frankly, if I looked at and listened to Vile Miami Dade County Commissioner Natacha Seijas as often as you have to, I would go out of my mind. How do you do it?

Lately Natacha Seijas has loud conversations (mostly with Audrey Edmonson) whenever Katy Sorenson is speaking. Sorenson plows on cheerfully.

My second question to Sorenson: How can you stick up for local government with a straight face when you are on the losing side of so many important votes?

I often think to myself, this woman has the patience of a saint. She really takes a lot of abuse in her capacity on the County Commission.

GoD,

I have to say your blog provides insight that you would not normally find anywhere else. From the point of view of a 36 year-old male who has lived here all his life, politics in Miami and Miami-Dade has nothing to be desired. Call it naiveté or stupidity, but I have come to the conclusion that politics is a business that caters to the less than in society. Most professionals and highly educated people stay out of politics because of their success in other facets of their lives.

I tend to see people in and around politics that probably could not have made it anywhere else, or in the case of national politicians have very huge agendas to deal with and are playing on a very big playing field. The thing is, what would be the alternative if you had no politics or politicians? Anarchy, communism?

From time to time, you do see the Katy Sorensen's who elevate their message and the way they carry themselves on and off the dais and they will still be attacked and dragged through the mud. The issue here that needs to be encouraged and applauded is not how many time she get's knocked down, but rather how many times she gets back up.

Her comments missed the point, when you are surrounded by scandals and bad deals that you voted for, it takes a lot of nerve to say the vote for tax cuts and the legislative effort was wrong.
Cut the lobbyists welfare, cut the budgets of your offices, cut the rich from stealing from the poor communities. Stop the Marlins from getting our money, stop the boondoggles, stop the housing scandals, the transit scandals the airport scandals.
The school board waste regarding overtime, mixed with the poor FCAT showing is not conducive to persuade anyone our taxes are going for anything worthwhile.
Saint....??? Please, she is a part of it. Performing Arts Center in Cutler Ridge excuse me...Bay? They can't fill the Arsht Center. When politicians demonstrate responsibility and fiscal restraint and when there is proven trust I won't be so critical.

36 year old male...thanks for writing what you did, good stuff:

and next writer, I feel your pain...you are both right.

I think the new boondoggle, S. Dade Performing Arts Center, is the brainchild of Moss. Put that with his other boondoggle, the new Disneyzoo at Metrozoo. Some commissioners build legacies on the backs of the poor. Moss, while building his legacy is railing about the lack of funding for the North corridor. How about Souto and his cattle show? Hu? We have no cattle industry in Dade but lots of money will be spent.Commissioners just don't prioritize the most needed projects; more important to brand their name on failures and call them successes; all campaign fodder.
Sorenson, I think tries her best but she is steamrolled by the other wacky 10 or 11.
What a freaking mess!
