Happy New Year from Eyeonmiami. By Geniusofdespair

What a news blurb to wake up to: Jorge Perez and Hilary! Every time I consider her as a viable candidate something like this comes along. Note to Miami Herald: What did you do, out-source this graphic? What the small print says is: "Miami Developer Jorge Perez on pal Hilary Clinton in Wallpaper Magazine."

Billionaire Jorge! Listen up! Drop the plans for the Mercy Hospital development and I will vote for the woman. And, get a new suit. Chartreuse is never in style.

Two thing you all, Jorge excluded, can do right NOW to help Miami and the pending expansion of the Urban Development Boundary (UDB) Line:

1. Download the Florida Hometown Democracy Petition (Link at right). Sign it. And, get at least one friend in West Kendall, Hialeah or Miami Lakes to sign one. Mail them in pronto.

2. Send an email to these two guys at the Department of Community Affairs and tell them why we should hold the Urban Development Boundary at this time. Traffic, water shortages, sprawl etc. are all reasons but I am sure you have some more you could talk about. Charles.Gauthier@dca.state.fl.us and Paul.Darst@dca.state.fl.us. Tell your friends to write to them too. They are our last line of defense and your comments are very important. You can leave a copy of your comments for others to see on this post.

Why Jorge excluded? He probably does more to stop UDB expansion than anyone else(his 20,000 or so condos coming on line in the next year or so Downtown sure make it tough to justify the need for more housing in the everglades). Its in his interest to fight UDB expansion as he is generally an urban core developer (more land open to development out west hurts the value of his downtown land holdings). Wish billionares like him would devote more to the cause since it he would benifit most financially.

The only beef I have with Jorge, besides him not sharing any money with me...is the Mercy Hospital development. I wish he would just drop that one.

Hometown Democracy is not the answer. It will destroy the State if it is enacted. We are built on a representative form of democracy. It has been that way here for more than 200 years, and it is that way for a reason.

Here, sadly, the effects of the remedy will be much worse than the disease.
