Miami Herald Must Report the NUKE News that impacts us better! by Geniusofdespair

This was in the Palm Beach Post yesterday but it effects us 100 times more here in Miami Dade County than it does Palm Beach:

FPL gets approval to boost power at four Florida nuclear plants
By Kristi E. Swartz- Palm Beach Post Staff Writer - Monday, December 10, 2007

Florida utility regulators unanimously signed off today on Florida Power & Light Co.'s request to upgrade each of its four nuclear reactors - two at the St. Lucie plant on Hutchinson Island and two others at the Turkey Point plant near Miami.

The move would add 414 megawatts of power to the grid between 2011 and 2012.

The expansion is part of FPL's larger nuclear program, which includes adding two additional reactors at Turkey Point. Under the plan, customers will be getting 30 percent of their electricity from nuclear fission by 2020.

The decision was made in less than an hour and with no debate on the issue itself. - SNIP -

Did any of you know about this meeting? I sure didn't and I am following the issue!

Herald, oh Herald... where are you spending your time?

Alternative publications are sorely needed in Miami. Competitive business models, anyone?

If only we could rely on the herald. It's sad really....to know that the interests and well being of Miami-Dade residents is NOT at the center of our local paper.

Well, it affects [sic] PBC, too, since it's not that far away. Would have been nice if they told us what the upgrade was.
