The County Commission Lobby has Two Paintings by Geniusofdespair

Every time I go to the county commission chambers I go out in the lobby to look at the painting above of the Everglades that was donated to the County and I think to myself: This shouldn’t be here. Actually it is a travesty to hang this at the Commission chambers. It makes me ill to see it blocked by Lobbyists slinking all around it with cell phones glued to their ears.

Most of the County Commissioners do not care about the Everglades one iota and they do not appreciate having this beautiful depiction in their lobby. I am sure if you asked any of them to describe it, only a couple could.

Tuesday during all the chaos, I noticed the other painting. It is called mangrove something or other and it has people all twisted up in the roots of the mangrove. This painting of twisting roots and tangled bodies belongs in the county. It embodies the way the system works: a big jumbled mess that you can't sort out. I believe this painting was by Xavier Cortada and the county bought this one -- The Commission commissioned it and it fits them to a T.
Hit on read more for bad cell phone photos taken during the Tuesday Meeting in the lobby (where the lobbyists hang out).

The cat is out of the bag although it's not something that we the people didn't suspect beforehand. The commissioners are going to own a luxury box inside the new Marlins stadium. Probably they'll be the only ones attending the games while the rest of the population cannot even afford the cheapest of the Marlins' tickets. Will they also have a special lane inside the tunnel? Free tickets to Parrot Jungle? These clowns vote for projects that will only benefit themselves -their constituents? Who cares! Let them fend for themselves! Viva la pepa, viva la vida -like the Spanish say.

This is one reason for not having a Port Tunnel.......

The Interstate 5 freeway is closed in both directions at the Newhall Pass Saturday Oct. 13, 2007, as the truck route tunnel still smolders after a 15-truck pileup on the rain-slicked Golden State Freeway in northern Los Angeles County in Santa Clarita, Calif., late Friday.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. --
A late-night crash in a Southern California freeway tunnel quickly turned into a fiery, chain-reaction pileup that mangled several trucks, killed at least two people and shut down the key north-south route as the wreckage burned into Saturday.
The crash late the night before involved an estimated 15 big rigs and possibly one or more passenger cars and sent people fleeing for their lives from the flaming tunnel. At least five of the trucks burst into flames, and the fire spread to the others. Ten people were injured.
"It looked like a bomb went off," said Los Angeles County firefighter Scott Clark, one of about 300 firefighters who battled the blaze through the night.
The bodies of two crash victims were found in the tunnel Saturday, said California Highway Patrol Officer David Porter. He couldn't immediately say whether one of them was a trucker listed as missing.
Firefighters could find more bodies as they explored the charred tunnel Saturday, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Ron Haralson.
The pileup in the southbound truck tunnel of Interstate 5 began about 11 p.m. Friday when two big rigs collided on the rain-slickened highway about 30 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. As crashes continued throughout the tunnel, which is about an eighth of a mile long, five tractor-trailers burst into flames, and the fire quickly spread.

Behind Renfrow you see Sergio Perriera, former County Manager, now lobbyist, and Rick Katz of Communikatz, consultant to FDOT, among others, and former political consultant to Alex Penelas.

Yes that Sergio with the cigar is a hateful little man. He gave me his card once and said: "If you ever need anything, call me." It said Kris Korge on the card. How stupid does he think I am? He got a big yuk I am sure.
