It is that time of year when everyone comes out of the woodwork to try and move the Urban Development Boundary. You would think in this stagnant market that no one would push outside the line because there is so much available within the line. You would be wrong. It hasn't stopped developers. They will keep building if it kills them.
Lowes paid $9,000,000 for these 20 acres in 2003 and they keep trying to move the Urban Development Boundary to build a store.
They have 11 acres already INSIDE the UDB line mind you. They could have built a store in 2003 on that 11 acres and made lots of money. Home Depot built a store on 10 acres in North Miami. But Lowes is being stubborn. They want it all. They want the whole 20 acres NOW!!! Piss on Lowes for being greedy, shop at Home Depot.

It's interesting how the deep corporate pockets like Lowe's and Lennar are the ones funding the incursion against the UDB. With the Latin Builders Association as their cheerleading section. Really imaginative. Not.
Where is the real accounting by the county of what the real costs to taxpayers are of moving the UDB. Added police, fire, water, sewer, transportation, etc. are paid by taxpayers, not the developers and lobbyists that reap the benefits.
Lowes or Home Depot can find 10-12 acres in the urban core. They can even find sites on major transportation corridors.
The public and the politicians should demand responsible and envirnomentally sensitive development.
This is an example of where the Florida Hometown Democracy Ammendment would kick in. Rather than the County Commissioners voting on this: We the electorate would vote on it. The lazy people living near this location that have to drive 3 miles to a Home Depot would vote for it -- but no other voter would. It would go down in flames. That's why all the lobbyists hate Florida Hometown Democracy. It's an annuity killer.
Why would anyone want to go to Home Depot? The staff is unfamiliar with the products they sell and have no clue on any home improvements projects. Also, try to get an employee to help you at Home Depot, they hide because they do not know the answers to any of your questions. What they should do is stop making so many Home Depots and start making Lowes. About the UDB lines if the residents of the immediate area are for it, then let it be. If it is not going to affect you personally why get make it impossible for the residents that it will effect.
they have room for the store within the bondary. it is not creating a hardship for the community.
Aside from that plain and simple fact, also if you have to travel 4 or 5 miles to a store it is not a hardship. Maybe they should get a starbucks too. and what about an IKEA store. Get real. We are talking about our wellfield area.
