It’s raining in Miami by Geniusofdespair

Once in awhile we get one of those all day rainy days like the rest of the country. It is not the norm. We usually get a wicked storm with torrential rains and then the sun shines brightly — more like the tropics -- and I am happy. I hate these drab days. They drain the optimism right out of you.

I don't think Lennar's CEO, Stuart Miller, is feel too optimistic today. They have posted their worst 4th quarter in 53 years, almost a $514 million dollar loss, according to a report in the Miami Herald. I was reading the Herald, thinking maybe I should buy some stock now or is it still too soon?

I listened to Pollster/Florida International University Professor Dario Moreno yesterday at a luncheon. He said he was working with Focus Groups at FIU and at each and every one, whether white, black, Cuban, Hispanic, Haitian, the people said the same thing: They thought their quality of life in Miami was going down. Interesting. I wonder if it was raining when he asked them?

It is going down and has been for some time. It’s one of the reasons I read this blog. It costs way too much to live here, traffic is deplorable, even though the county police don’t believe it, crime is a problem and they don’t want to even address quality of life issues, county government is corrupt and planning for growth is a joke. I’ve lived just shy of 61 years and still don’t want to leave but someday it will probably come to a head and I will move away.

So its not just the young folk that think their quality of life in Miami was going down.

County police know crime is a problem. They also know they are limited by money and manpower. As large as the police budget is, equipment is expensive, training is expensive and we voters can't afford to give them enough money to cover all the salaries it would take to keep us happy.

If you want to get really worried, think about all the armed gangbangers who are roaming our streets. Where are the adults in lives? Are they thugs, too?

I will go out on a limb here and say, if we tolerate illegal behavior and people have nothing to look forward to other than sneaking around trying hurt or steal from others...our lives are going to be awful in this county.

At the risk of sounding like my grandparents, lets note the lack of politeness, friendship, work ethic and truthfulness among the general population here. Where are Ozzie and Harriet these days?

I love rainy days. They are so peaceful.

I was just happy it rained, finally. The sky turned yellow afterwards...almost golden. Actually, that was probably pollution but I am pretending it was sunshine.
