Yes, a friend sent me this email on Bill O'Reilly. by Geniusofdespair

I am not making this up this was really an email sent to me by a friend from my childhood:
I was surprised to hear how much you dislike Bill O'Reilly. I'm not aware of him telling any lies. I have been really impressed with his series on child molesters and rapists and the pressure he has put on judges who are giving these goons 4 months and sometimes less time for molesting children - especially in VT where the MSM has attacked O'Reilly for going after the judges. He has done a great job on this but MSM ignores his success here.

Anyway in spite of what the left has said about him I find him very balanced and middle of the road. I'm watching his show now.

He's lost his mind, I'm hoping he doesn't go blind too! "Middle of the road," "Balanced?" Wow, that is pretty scary. Actually that is the part that really scares me, that he doesn't know he is watching biased "entertainment" news. I sent him the link to "Sweet Jesus I hate Bill O'Reilly". Any other suggestions?

Just out of curiosity, do you hold the same contempt for Olbermann that you do for O'Reilly?

When some in the media say things that have no basis of truth or fact, especially fairly often, it is up to the public to be suspicious. Unfortunately, Bill O'Reilly has a habit of saying things that are hearsay, misinformation, or lacking facts to make his points or while arguing during interviews. Google his name and look into several websites that check on statements he makes, and make up your own mind as to how accurate he is.
There are many in the media who spin facts to make their positions appear stronger. It is wrong to dismiss this blog and try to move the argument away from O'Reilly, since he has a large audience and therefore his misinformation contributes to more people getting incorrect information.

habla, both entertainment news ....no contempt...just calling both what they are.

Habla Mierda-
Olbermann checks his facts, and O'Reilly makes them up. O'reilly makes them up out of whole cloth, and has been CAUGHT making stuff up.

But O'Reilly's fans aren't generally very bright, so they don't care.

@C.L.Jahn

Both Olbermann and O'Reilly do exactly the same thing. They both spin facts to better agree with their own point of view. Saying that Olbermann fact-checks while O'Reilly doesn't makes you the same kind of narrow minded fool that you accuse O'Reilly of being.

Bill O'reilly does take slanted views and often twists the truth, but that can be said for such lofty reporting sources as the Washington Post and New York Times. The sad reality is that the US news media is slanted and biased in many ways on both the right and the left. Most of this is, I suspect, driven by the desire to increase viewership and readership irrespective of the moral correctness of the situation. The news media began to lose its independence in the late 60's and is now part of the broader and amorphous entertainment industry.

maybe the line between news and editorial has blurred so much people aren't aware of what they are listening to. An editorial does manipulate the facts to fit the argument and everyone knows that: Because
it is an editorial. But if people don't even know what an editorial is, and mistake it for news...that is a BIG problem,

i was there tonight. I really liked Victor Diaz, I can't believe Dim Bruno put him on the committee.
De Grandy did suck. There were so many people concerned about the charter it was really impressive

it's sad to see old friends move to the dark side. who knew those among us could be so easily swayed by fear mongering?

I am hoping for this friend that he has some kind of cathartic even that moves him to a place of self discovery and awareness....who am I kidding? next time I see him, I'll whap him upside the head and see if he comes out of it. even if he doesn't, it sure will be a satisfying way to momentarily quell the stream of racist, homophobic rhetoric streamng out of his mouth like sewage.

love, friend of the old friend

p.s. remember paul atredis? "fear is the little mind-killer..". truly, it is.

Thanks jenny who knows this guy....

he did seem pretty homophobic. However, I think i have hit the nail on the head:

People don't know the difference between getting news and getting editorials. The line is blurred. maybe it was all those stupid embedded newspaper men that was the worst thing to every happen to journaism that I ever saw. How could they be impartial. they would be thrown out.

Thank you all. Because of your feedback, I formulated my answer to this Bill O lover and here is what I sent:

As long as you understand that you are NOT watching a news show, that you are watching an editorial show...that is fine. It is not unbiased reporting. If he has opinions, he is editorializing. I have a habit of making my own decisions, I don’t need anyone to put ideas in my head...that is why I don’t watch or listen to either side.

I am independent. I wish you were watching the show for the fun aspect of it...not the news aspect. If you want a right leaning newspaper read the wall street journal, and get your news from a real newspaper with real reporters, not an entertainment show.

I can’t talk about this anymore.
