Watch Out Commissioner Dennis Moss! By Geniusofdespair

Laureano Torres opened a Campaign Account in April to run in District 9 against Dennis Moss. Aside from this brave individual, only incumbents are registered for the 2008 election so far. I googled the name and this came up from “Showdown over Elian”:

"If I were the father, I'd want freedom for my son," said Laureano Torres, 38, carrying a sign depicting Elian at sea, in an inner-tube surrounded by dolphins. "I think if Cuba gives Gonzalez time to walk around and see how freedom feels, he'll stay," he predicted.

Don't know if it is the same guy.

Looks like single member districts are starting to be problematic for their advocates.

Economic and population trends tend to dilute regional ethnic interests . . . let's see if Moss is still a fan of single member representation during this race.

Moss is probably not worried. He has a machine of absentee ballots, elderly homes and public housing. On the other hand, I understand he recently hired a Hispanic in his office. That's a first so maybe he is just a little concerned. But unless Mr. Torres is a person of means, he can't mount a viable campaign because Moss made public campaign financing impossible.

He has done nothing to help the people in his district. He can be taken out.
