Former Chief of Staff of Carlos Gimenez, Genaro "Chip" Iglesia, is now the Key Biscayne City Manager. Former (recently fired) Assistant County Manager, Roger Carlton, is now Chief of Staff for Carlos Gimenez. (Carlton is pictured).

A well calcuated move for both Giminez and Carlton. We all know that Giminez has great disdain for the Mayor. Hiring Carlton is a big middle finger to Alvarez.
I know both men and I have never had any negative feedback from either. I found Roger to be very patient at the Watershed meetings. I have great admiration for the way Gimenez tries to get to the bottom of all the boondoggles. His questions are always on target. Out of all of the commissioners, I would trust him most with my pocketbook. If I had one.
I agree with you Genius--- Gimenez is the most knowledgeable about County operations---Staff has a hard time getting its agenda through the Commissioners with him there.(County employees have an agenda that is self serving---and totally different at times than the Commission or the residents of Miami-Dade Co.)
If I lived in District 7, I would be very happy right now. Not only does Commissioner Gimenez have a distrust of the current administration (which is very much warranted at this point), but with Roger, now he has someone that can vet through the lies, and show the Commissioner directly where the smoking guns are. If I were Burgess, I would be very afraid right now. He tried to throw Roger under the bus on the Biotech deal, something that started way before Roger came back to the County, and now he is going to get his, I can feel it!!!

The Budget & Finance Committee Meeting on the annual Budget was very interesting today.
The Mayor, pissed off about certain commissioners berating department staff, told staff not to attend the meeting.
He essentially said,"we met our obligation under the charter to provide a balanced budget recommendation"...let them (the commission)figure it out from here. They can take it, leave it, amend it, or whatever.
The Commission is responsible for passing a balanced budget. Let's see how they handle actually having to do the dirty work.
The first real shot across the bow has been fired.
Mayor and staff a no-show at budget hearing By MATTHEW I. PINZUR Debate over Miami-Dade's upcoming budget was all but frozen Thursday afternoon when none of Mayor Carlos Alvarez's top aides showed up at a key County Commission budget hearing. No analysts from the county's budget department appeared at the meeting of the Budget and Finance Committee, nor did any representatives of the executive-branch departments that are overseen by the committee -- including finance, audit and personnel.
''What we have is basically a stonewall,'' said Commissioner Barbara Jordan, herself a former assistant county manager, who said the mass absence was unprecedented.
Some of those administrators are on vacation because the commission had initially planned a recess for most of August. But with a tight schedule to cut $222 million for the next budget year, most of the commission's seven committees scheduled hearings. At similar meetings earlier this month, the administration sent assistant county managers, senior members of each department under review and at least one budget analyst.
Staff from the few departments still managed by the commission -- it has its own small team of auditors and the county's lobbying agency -- did attend.
''If nobody's going to show up from the administration, why are we here?'' asked Commissioner Carlos Gimenez.
Alvarez's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Legislature's mandate to cut property taxes dragged into early summer, delaying Alvarez from releasing his budget proposal until mid-July. That proposal includes millions of dollars in cuts that commissioners oppose; they want to work them out of the spending plan before a pair of legally mandated public hearings about the budget next months.
Those hearings are set for Sept. 6 and Sept. 20, with a final vote scheduled for the end of the second hearing. Commissioners have little room to delay those meetings -- Alvarez has 10 days to veto the budget, and the new fiscal year begins Oct. 1.
''We're here conducting the business of the people and they're not here,'' Commissioner Javier Souto said. ``They don't care -- they're on their vacations.''
The financial struggle of cutting the $7.5 billion budget has been magnified by this year's change in the structure of county government. When voters awarded Alvarez strong-mayor powers in a January referendum, the county's senior bureaucrats began reporting to him instead of the commission.
Some commissioners suggested Thursday's executive no-show was an attempt to paralyze the commission's ability to question the budget proposal and implement changes. Instead, it motivated many of the seven commissioners at today's hearing to call for additional scrutiny and additional meetings to rewrite the spending plan.
''They're trying to pull a coup,'' Jordan said. ``We can make it backfire.''
Barbara Jordan aka Robin Hood is wondering how to justify the outlandish wastes of money to CBOs now that the belt tightening is occurring. Sen. Souto, must have had his snooze button disconnected, he was awake. Giminez, is the only one who sees reality and he postures in favor of logic. The rest are lemmings with their own little areas of serfdom and sacred cows and in some cases bulls.
I agree dymhaktl... I wish a different Carlos was strong mayor... I think we would all be better off with Gimenez rather than Alvarez.. Too bad he is probably going to run for City of Miami Mayor to save the City again after the Diaz/Arriola experiment...
Roger Carleton sure messed up many projects while with the County. He allowed the PAC Center to go forward with no parking, he did not do any due diligence on the sham Biopark deal, he did not stop N. Miami from putting up at least 6 illegal billboards. And that is just a few screw-ups.
I was always curious why Roger Carlton refused to enforce the anti-billboard laws...
Every criminal had free rein when Roger was around. When Roger was working for the City of Miami Beach it was rumored $30 Mil disappeared from the South Pointe CRA. Not to Rogers pockets... but who was watching the checkbook? Just rumors...
Did Roger Carleton approve the $75,000 check to the Boston scammers requested weeks after the Commissioners supposedly shut down the scheme? How much did the taxpayers lose?
Roger did not approve the biotech deal, and he did not approve that $75K payment.. That was Burgess and roger's predecessor. Roger was not on the team for the pac, until the last year or so. Burgess is very scared right now, and he has every right to be... This is going to be fun!!!
