Phony Baloney Political Action Committee with the Nice Name. by Geniusofdespair

Names that keep popping up in other stories are in this one: Ron Book, Kendrick Meek and Al Lorenzo...

I love the title of this Political Action Committee (PAC), it is called Yes for a Greater Miami Dade! And, yes the exclamation point is actually in the name.

You might wonder what this Committee is trying to promote. What could make Miami Dade great? Could it be more affordable housing, clean water, free health care, money for wetland acquisition? Well, you would be wrong. It is, of course, Gambling!

Barbara Haenick is the chairman of this PAC. Isn't she also the Director of the Greyhound Dog Track? And didn't she give $2,000 to Kendrick Meek's campaign in 2004?

So far this PAC spent a lot on consulting (suspiciously right before the County Commission voted in favor of putting gambling on the ballot yet again). Consultant Quantum Results Inc. got $21,000, the only officer of Quantum is Al Lorenzo. Urban Initiatives, Inc. got $21,000. Registering agent for Urban is Ronald Book and officer is Howard Willis, II. Campaign Data (Hugh Cochran) got $32,500 for research and analysis. That’s funny, I get a big zero for all my research. Maybe one of these lobbyists will get smart and start paying me a "Not to research" fee.

The PAC spent a lot of money so far but they have a shit-load of money yet to spend. According to the report filed July 8th, this PAC has collected $450,000 to get gambling in Miami Dade County. Calder and West Flagler have contributed $225,000 each. These two tracks would profit from the gambling, still that is a lot of dough to make this a Greater Miami Dade!

Do me one favor good people, I don’t care how you vote, but don’t say you are doing it to fund the schools. That is such a big fat, stinking lie. Do it because you want gambling or don’t want gambling.

I couldn’t care less about the gambling but the school B.S. makes me want to puke and if one person tells me funding schools is why they voted for it, they are going to get socked in the nose.

P.S. I still can't figure out where Rodney Barreto's company Miami Gaming Ventures, LLC fits in to this web. Any ideas?

What's so wrong with gambling? If it brings stupid, fat tourists with dollars to Miami what is wrong with that? They flock in droves here (Cherokee North Carolina) and nobody complains. And we're in the damn Bible Belt. Miami is a city built on sin and greed, gambling fits.

Where in my post ---where oh where, did I say anything about gambling one way or the other? Where did I say Gambling in WRONG? Where?

I said I didn't care one way or the other. I do however, don't think gambling it is going to make Miami GREATER as the PAC name implies. Do you? Doesn't appear you do...."Built on sin and greed"

Ron Book seems to be involved in every illegal activity in Miami-Dade. He has been accused of owning illegal billboards in N. Miami and/or Miami-Dade County. Ron Book wants to legalize illegal gambling per this blog. Ron Book is rumored to want illegal murals, alledgedly. What other illegal activities get Ron Books attention?

Good work! If Ron Book is involved then that is reason enough for me to oppose it, whatever it is. Add Kendrick Meek and Al Lorenzo and the whole thing is just super toxic!!! By the way Al, we the taxpayers still want our 1Million back.

Sinner:

I didn't say anything about Ron Book except that he was the registering agent for one of the consultant companies that got money from the parimutuals PAC. You are drawing your own conclusion, right or wrong. It is not what I said.

Where was this published? Can you scan them in? I just would like to see some confirmation because those are some heavy weights and it doesn't seem all that bad otherwise.

Hey Genius,

Stop back peddling... you point people in a certain direction with your post and dismiss your influence by telling them that they are drawing their own conclusion.

Where was what published....it is all on websites, the Miami Dade Elections posts all pac's. Sunbiz gives you Corporate information and officers and google tells you about campaign financing. I am not back peddling.

I just said in my searches these names surfaced. Because someone gets a campaign contribution, or someone forms a company does not mean there is meaning one way or the other. It is the cumulative effect of these same names showing up again and again that interests me. To see where the power is...

P.S. I try to be accurate above all. When readers misconstrue what I try to be painfully accurate about, including not heeding my question marks which are placed with great thought -- I have to protest.

Gambling is a tax on the poor and hopeless, and in Miami there are lots. The fact that these people are involved and that it leads to so many social problems we do not need more of those problems here, lets not fall for this one folks.

Why would a siting congressman get involved in this?

All I said is he got a campaign contribution.
