Coconut Grove: Help Mike Suarez Win Against Angel! Guest Blog by MikeSupporter

Grovers and Vizcayans: Are you still mad about the vote for the 3 Towers at Mercy Hospital? Well, you can get even and get rid of one of the Commissioners that voted for it. Angel Gonzalez has a challenger! There is an article about Mike Suarez, in the SunPost: Some Youthful Idealism .

Mike Suarez is a friend and I support him so I can tell you that he is working hard for this seat. He walks door-to-door everyday through the neighborhoods, and is getting a good reception. People are so happy to see his youthful, tanned and smiling face instead of the wizened countenance of the mean incumbent! Some might think he's a long shot, but I'm betting he's every bit the miracle candidate that Marc Sarnoff was (remember him? Overcoming odds that were four to one?) I say, let's help him. A simple check to the Mike Suarez Campaign could do the trick and turn the tide to better government. Send a contribution to: Mike Suarez. 5201 NW 7th Street, #410, Miami, FL 33126.

He looks good, he sounds good and best of all: He ain't Angel.

I have met Mike Suarez and he truly is a very nice man working hard on his MBA (which will come in handy) and his heart is in the right place. There is nothing about Mike Suarez that I don't like. But more important, his agenda is our agenda. Let's tilt the balance towards us, the citizens! Support Mike Suarez.

Maybe he can knock on 10,000 doors? Miracles can happen.

I normally like to vote FOR someone, not against someone (except GWB, Id vote for lIndsay Lohan before voting for a Bush).

In any case, is there more information on Suarez so we can see what he is all about???

I interviewed Mike Suarez twice at great length, and found him to have a public interest and quality of life agenda; he's all for neighborhood protection, is against over-development, and is as disgusted by the endless stories of corruption and waste in the city as we are.

I am endorsing and supporting him.

Mike has a bachelor's in management, and is finishing up a masters of public administration at St. Thomas University.

He served on the Code Enforcement Board for a year before deciding to run. He's married, was raised in the city.

Mike is not a long shot. I've knocked on 500 doors with him in his district, and a grand total of 3 voters said they were already committed to Angel Gonzalez. Many have expressed strong anger towards Angel Gonzalez.

Remember, especially all you Groveites, when it comes to zoning decisions, the election is how the public decides what the overall policy will be.

Mike will be outspent; just take a look at Gonzalez's list of campaign contributors on the city clerk's website. It is a who's who of the development industry. Do you think those names are interested in our garbage pickup and recreation programs in our parks? Heck no, it's all about land use decisions for them.

Sarnoff was outspent 4 to 1, but won 2 to 1. Mike can certainly do the same.

Please contribute to his campaign by mailing a check to Mike Suarez Political Campaign 5201 NW 7 Street, #410, Miami, FL 33126

And if you have any family / friends / coworkers who live in District 1, please ask them to support Mike Suarez.

Thank you Elvis for the background.... We needed to know more.

I also thank you Elvis, but Mike needs to advertise his platform somewhere, and hopefully something in greater detail than what you presented. Everybody here is appealing to Grovites, Upper East Siders, and the like, which are wealthy, preservation-minded folks who may also have NIMBY attitudes about affordable housing, etc. That is very different from Allapattah, which would become Mike's constituents should he leave. But this is a chance for working class Allapattahns and others to align with the wealthy neighborhood folks to seriously challenge status quo development in Miami (which neglects affordable housing as well as adequate growth planning and control). I hope a true collaboration emerges that can fight for affordable housing and working class issues as well as PLANNED and CONTROLLED development along Biscayne Blvd/US 1. One more commissioner may tip the balance but the gain should be for the mass of working people not only the wealthy areas east of Biscayne Blvd.

Thanks for all the support for Mike Suarez! He really can make a difference in District 1. Especially the information from Elvis Cruz, who is obviously in good with Mike.
