It is good to see that there are at least a few of us who care and understand what is going on. It is a terrible thing to be the only few people in the County who can see what is really happening. But we must get used to it if we are to be the good guys.

I like the idea of going to a commissioners home. I am sure this will get them very very mad.

So may be it should become a monthly event for the whole activist community? We could join with eachother's causes and pick a new commissioner each time, or maybe repeats?

Yes. Great idea.

I have to admit that hanging outside a commissioners house is a unique idea. I would think it would be a great thing, until they can't park in the street without the police coming along.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with the Crosswinds development? I assume that you guys must know.

Its about the same tricks all the commissioners use to undermine residents and their democratic rights. In this case it is about using Commission giveaways to build private unaffordable housing when affordable housing is needed. See letter and background below.

Dear Power U Ally Organization, Friend, Supporter:

Overtown continues to be ignored and given bad deals! Commissioners
Edmonson and Spence-Jones have proven to have more in common than not... they both promised ?No
Crosswinds? during their election campaigns, now they have joined
camp with the BIG DEVELOPER, Crosswinds!

Haven?t we had enough House of Lies, corruption and bad deals in
Miami?

First, City Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones tried to give Crosswinds a break giving them free land for their luxury development that is not for
Overtown residents, but she was found guilty of breaking the law. Now, County Commissioner Audrey Edmonson is trying to give Crosswinds a break by extending their time to continue negotiating this bad deal! On July 18, she tried to gag the community from speaking truth to power at her Economic Development and Human Service (EDHS) Committee Meeting. She has bypassed process by getting the BCC Chair to put this item on July 24th Agenda without recommendation from the EDHS committee.

Additional Information:
The Power U lawsuit victory will require Crosswinds to reapply for the Major Use Special Permit that is required to construct a project of that size.
This process could not happen before the land is to revert back to the county out of the hands of the city.

County Commissioner Audrey Edmonson comes into the picture here. She submitted a resolution to extend the reverter giving the City of Miami, Crosswinds,
and now the county an opportunity to continue to negotiate the Crosswinds deal.
This extension would move the reverter from August 1, 2007 to December 31st 2007.

The resolution to extend the reverter was presented by the chair of the Economic Development and Human Services Committee, Audrey Edmonson. When Power U
members wanted to speak to this item to give information to the other members of the committee Audrey Edmonson said ?NO? she had heard all she needed to hear. Power U insisted that they needed to speak because the other commissioners should not vote
on an item they are uninformed about. This position was supported by Sorenson and Souto. In the middle of Power U presentations the committee lost the quorum
therefore the item didn?t pass through committee. The land would
revert back to the
county on August 1, 2007.

What Audrey Edmonson did not reveal was that she had already put the
item
on the
agenda for the full commission meeting, July 24th! Moving the item
beyond
committee
approval and before the full commissioner body. They now will vote on
an
item that
has not been decided upon in committee and that they have not heard
public
discussion on. These are the types of votes that continue to result in
corrupt deals
throughout the county!

WHY SAY NO TO EXTENDING THE REVERTER?
1 Crosswinds has had 5 years to create a project and This
developer
is being
given free land to make a profit!

2 This is a bad deal for Overtown residents.

3 During Audrey Edmondson?s campaign she supported the
community and
opposed
Crosswinds, she is now ignoring the community and supporting
Crosswinds.

4 Audrey Edmonson disrespected the committee and the public by
not
disclosing
the fact that she put the item on the BCC agenda before it even got
into
committee!

5 The City of Miami and Crosswinds just lost a lawsuit proving
they
broke the
law!
