Commissioner Moss on Gambling by Geniusofdespair

At the County Commission Meeting in defense of gambling, Moss said that he has been to the casino at Gulfstream Park and it has revitalized the area and brought in jobs???

Is he nuts? There are million dollar homes a stones throw away. And there are nice shops around it. The City Hall, police station and post office are across the street. What is to revitalize? Everything has been there for years. And what jobs? They could have built a Starbucks/Publix strip mall and would have had as many jobs.

Gulfstream is on the border of Broward and Miami Dade County. Literally, it is right on the line. Aventura is a wealthy community and Hallandale is doing okay. The gambling did nothing to either hood.

Here is a hint, when a lobbyist tells you what to say to push something, use a little common sense.

My guess is that Mr Moss had not been in the area in awhile..doesn't he live and represent some part of South Dade? What gambling at Gulfstream has done is revitalize Gulfstream itself, the surrounding area was doing just fine without it. My beef with the whole gambling thing is the way it's being parsed out to not be true gambling. If we're going to have gambling, we may as well have the real, Vegas, thing going on - not these ridiculous slot machines..

Amen for real Gambling....Roulette, Crap & Blackjack....

Slot Machines lack any entertainment value, hence lower than expected revenue from the current crop of racinos in Broward.

BIGFOOT

If we are going to have slots we might as well have all the rest. Planet Hollywood has the right idea, have top notch entertainment too! They put in this upscale restaurant at Gulfstream which is empty. The buffet is loaded with little old ladies shoving you for the roast beef.

Wanna bet Moss will eventually want slots in his new Disney/Metrozoo? Disney/Metrozoo will fail so why not slots in the new hotel? The argument will be that slots will draw people to the Disney/Metrozoo. After all, that's the argument for Disney/Metrozoo; we need to draw people to the zoo with hotels, restaurants, rides and goony golf.
Then when Moss' mini performing arts center in South Dade fails, slots can bail that out too.
I see the camel's nose under the tent.
Moss represents some pretty poor areas in S. Dade, one would think he should oppose this activity that is predatory to our most economically vulnerable.
Wonder how much money Moss will take into his campaign coffers from the gambling industry and the developers of Disney/Metrozoo and mini-PAC.

Gambling breeds crime and more corruption.

Moss is a bit of an idiot. I wonder if Moss has ever visited Atlantic City? That might even look good to him?

I am at a loss how to answer all of the above. I know that the crazy people who are going to give their money away thinking that they can ever beat the odds will gamble no matter where they have to go. I really believe that if we craft the law just right then our county will get some of the money now going everywhere else. Besides because what I own will also make a lot of money for me, I find it hard to be neutral.
