First let me say I like North Miami Mayor Kevin Burns very much and congratulate him on his win yesterday. However, for “Miami Today” to feature him, including a big picture on the cover above the fold, of the May 3rd issue (with a 2 page story) under a caption which said: “The Achiever” seems unfair to his opponent. Was that an editorial Michael Lewis or was that an incredibly well-timed news story for an incumbent’s campaign?
All I ask: We should be fair to challengers.

I did not receive the edition you speak about, but I am happy now that it was in there. If you lived in North Miami you would have received in the mail two of the worst attacks I have ever seen in 61 years of being in politics. It was nasty, disgusting, lying, and much more that I would not put in a blog comment. The people responsible should have been hung and quartered. They did even worse. Mayor Burns conducted his entire campaign with dignety and honesty and without any references to the
opposition.
I'm thrilled Mr Burns won! As a homeowner and resident here in North Miami I cringe on a daily basis while out walking the dog on what has befallen this little neighborhood of mine, sandwiched in between W Dixie and Biscayne, north of 135st. It reminds me of the design district 10 years ago before folks started cracking down on the scorched earth policy that had been allowed to go on there with the conversion of single family homes into multiple apts! Horrible. I look around at what once were cute little houses on deliciously large lots and hope beyond hope that the code enforcement crackdown starts happening now - I'm not pointing fingers at any one culture or group of people, but rules are made and then ignored and I think Mr Burns has been attacked because he is trying to enforce the rules and restore these little neighborhoods to the single famliy homes they are. Enforcing rules does not equal discrimination. It equals enforcing rules and that's all.
send me the attack ad -- would love to see it.
The difference is: Newspapers are suppose to report neutral unless it is an editorial. A big article right before an election is an editorial.
I never saw the Miami Today story but I was hearing stories about the disgusting campaign waged by Mayor Burn's opponent. Mayor Burns seems excellent. We are all glad the voters saw through the crap.
