In a 1999 NOAA study of Biscayne Bay, in the sediment off shore of Biscayne Landing, they found a spike (more than twice as much as neighboring test results) in PCB concentration. NOAA said: “It exceeded the RL in most samples.” Not surprising, it was a former superfund site just on shore of the test area. No dirt has ever been hauled away from the Biscayne Landing site (a.k.a Munisport), and as far as I know, no water has been cleaned yet. The FED’s delisted the superfund site (it had been an unregulated dump) prior to 1998 and left it to the County and City of North Miami to cleanup. The City and County entered in to a consent agreement in January 1998 to clean it up.
The ammonia laden water below ground was suppose to be cleaned by the developer per an agreement with North Miami years ago. The developer proposed an experimental cleanup instead of the cleanup designed by DERM. Didn’t work. I think the developer is now hoping for the old adage “The solution to pollution is dilution”: In other words, let the contaminated water mix in with the Biscayne Aquatic Preserve water enough, so maybe the levels will test lower and they will be spared the cleanup costs and worry: Hard to sell a half million dollar townhouse with a cleanup going on above ground just next door.
No water cleaned yet? Two high rise buildings built so far. What now?

I live around that area and I'm sure many have noticed the perpetual stink right at that intersection for years.
THAT IS BECAUSE YOU HAVE A SOLID WASTE TREATMENT PLANT JUST NORTH OF THE AREA... CLOSER TO THE COURTHOUSE. THEY SEEM TO ONLY RUN IT AN NIGHT.
I still can't believe this got built without a clean "bill of health" from someone official.
I wonder what the sales staff in the models would answer if you happend by and asked them about all of this? I've been meaning to do that myself for sometime now...

Do you mean the wastewater treatment plant that was airbrushed out of photos in all of Biscayne Landings' sales literature?
I have been shocked twice in 24 hours about JESCA. In my mail yesterday was a solicitation letter from a local lobbyist asking me for a donation to that organization in honor of all the good work of Dorrin Rolle.
I dumped it immediately into the garbage.
In my many experiences in trying to schedule meetings with Rolle, the commissioner, NEVER ONCE did I get a return call - or a chance of a meeting to discuss issues of importance to the citizens of Miami Dade County!
Why in the world would I ever consider helping to fund one of his causes that seems to be on the rocks?
The second shock came when I saw that photo of Rolle with Arriola, again pleading for help with JESCA. What an unlikely pair. Neither one of them are on my priority list, so I promptly dumped that newspaper into the garbage as well.
I am sure, the Miami Dade County School Board will put the funding in the hands of appropriate and secure agencies who will do a fine job to continue the programs for at risk children.
Per the county, there is a massive contamination of the water underground at the Biscayne Landings Site that is leaking into the mangroves. And you are right, not one drop of this polluted water has been cleaned up yet. I wonder what the soon-to-be new condo owners would think about this if they were told as closings are being scheduled now on these units. DERM told me 5 years ago that people would not be allowed to live there until the pollution was cleaned up. Guess DERM got buffaloed by the City since it must be the City that allows the certificates of occupancy, right?
The previous comment did not mention that the condo towers at Biscayne Landings are built right on top of the contaminated water.
let's not forget the documented hospital waste that was dumped their illegally (in red biohazard bags), I remember this being in the papers when the dump was running...
