Who Gave Against the Strong Mayor by geniusofdespair

The PAC Citizens for Unity and Common Rights collected $357,150.00 to fight the Strong Mayor Charter Change. The odd thing: They collected $340,050 and spent 316,306.85 in eighteen days! And they talk about swift boats... they should come to Miami for swift political contributions.

Here are just some of the 20 pages of donors that you might recognize: Joseph Goldstein, Juan Mayol, Codina Group, Inc. (there were two entries), Shoma Homes, Shoma Development, Shoma Homes at Keys Cove, Adrian Builders, Bonefish Partners (Mgr. Michael Swerdlow), Gordon Reyes & Co., Dart Construction (Sean Murray Todd), Bercow Radell law firm, Iberia Tiles, Estate Homes, Inc., Marc Kovens, Strock & Strock, Gloria Garcia, Douglas Landsea, Ernie Cambo’s CPF Investment Group, Anotonio Vidal, Florida Aggregate (Rock Miners), Rosen & Rosen, PA, Jorge Piedra, Michael Kerwin, Javier J. Quintero, Yoss and Adorno’s “Concerned Citizens” groups, Miguel de la Portilla, Sergio Espinoza, Daniel R. Valdes, Alger Farms, Live Oak Partners (Barry Brant Mgr.), James Humble, Biscayne Landing and curiously: Commissioner Sally Heyman.

Many unions gave: SEIU (Local 1991) a $10,000 donation and the Plumbers Local Union 519 and Local 349 Electro Pac giving $12,500 each, topping the list for union donors. Union dues for this?

And what is a list without Greenberg Traurig ($10,000).

The 2110 Trust in Ft. Lauderdale gave $25,000. Hey Broward, stay out of our politics!

P.S. A lot of these same people/corporations gave to stop the Seijas recall. How do I know? My computer finished typing the names as I entered them in SUNBIZ — I had typed them already once.

There are some growers on the list. Are they the same ones that she gave $$$$ to from her commission fund?

Well. The New Times article about the Commissioner was talking about a check to the Farm group. Then they turned right around and had a fund raiser for her not long after. Then comes the strong mayor vote a month later and they turn around again and write another check to her cause? Why?

I do not get it.

Some farmers want the highest value for their land. To get a higher value the land has to be rezoned for more than 1 unit per 5 acres. Guess who can change the zoning? Guess who has vetoed the attempt to move the UDB line (which would allow for zoning changes).

Live Oak Partners / Barry Brant is one of Manuel Diaz Farms' land holding companies.

Wonder where Armando Guttierez, Ron Book, Miguel de Grandy, Sergio Pino and other big lobbyists are on this list? Probably hidden behind other donors whose names you never heard of. Count on it. They all supported the system as it is, because they always got what they wanted out of it. The Greenberg Traurig donation is the blanket check. The Codina donation is a thank-you. Mayor Alvarez is a wild card. The interests with the most to worry about (and to lose, for some), are over-leveraged property owners outside the Urban Development Boundary who paid inflated prices for land just as the housing market made a U-turn south. Count on them to mount their own candidate for strong mayor in 2008, just like Sapp was pushed up against the popular County Commissioner, Katy Sorenson.
