Listening this afternoon to Gastric By-Pass Surgery on WLRN Topical Currents, we had the queasy feeling about local public radio from the Florida Keys to the Palm Beaches. Are we alone?

Glad you asked. The programming is stale as week old bread. Is Topical Currents trying to be a parody of SNL?
As a thin woman worrying about my weight I was strangely drawn in to the gastric bypass discussion. Rather than worry about what I eat, why not eat what I want and have the surgery later. It is an intoxicating idea... I hope next week they discuss breast augmentation ...I need that too.
Yes there is a lot going on... if you haven't already, be sure to check out FRONTLINE on WPBT, "News War: Secrets, Sources and Spin". It's really good. A three part series.
The question is why no station in Miami offers the outstanding Pacifica (the older and more community based NPR network) program Democracy Now!
This past November, during Amy Goodman's fall benefit tour for radio and tv stations that air Democracy Now!, Amy spoke at the Miami Book Fair. Democracy Now! also broadcast from Miami with guests Isabel Allende and Alice Walker.
You can watch or listen to that show at: www.Democracynow.org
At the festival, Democracy Now! volunteers made contact with Mia Landrin, Communications Manager, for WLRN 91.3 FM and PBS Channel 17/DTV 20. She said she would like to hear from Miami residents about why they want Democracy Now! on WLRN.
Wouldn't it be great if other concerned residents in Miami would contact Ms. Landrin and let her know that you want Democracy Now! on WLRN.

Good suggestion about writing WLRN, to include Pacifica in its programming. But by all means, do write WLRN and ask for some new fresh voices to report on our local scene.

is that the end of the post? that's it. You didn't even go through bill baer's diet and cholesteral levels.

Yeah, but that's for Jerry Springer, isn't it? Or Neil Rogers? I think they need some fresh new voices over there at WLRN, too.
With all that is going on in Miami, what is it with WLRN?

Democracy? What's that.
Its one of those concepts that our neighboring countries were founded upon like Canada, Costa Rica, Chile, even Atlanta I have been told.
