LOL, gen.
PS: We Won!
I sure wish I was a fly in someones house at the moment.... I a bet a commissioner or 2 are muttering under their breath.
This Miami-Dade resident and voter is breathing a sigh of relief.
After the polls closed, I went to the Miami-Dade Elections site and tracked the results... It's really interesting to see the differences in the vote when it's broken out.
The strong mayor easily passed 2 to 1 among early and absentee voters. The election was much closer among those who voted on Election Day, probably coinciding with all those misleading flyers we all got in the mail, one of them featuring "Alex Pinelas" (sic).
I wonder if anyone besides me sees the irony in making it illegal to "lie" during a petition drive vs. the lies spews on these propaganda pieces.
I voted for the Strong Mayor. I told everyone I know to vote too. But I hope Alvarez does something. He has done nothing since he was elected. He takes his $20,000/month salary and he did nothing except spend time on yesterday's vote. Enough already. Do something.
Had the bunch (Board of County Commissioners) not engaged in their endless shenanigans (lawsuits, fearmongering, attacks of the referendum, etc.), Mayor Alvarez could have done something besides defending himself from their attacks.
The bunch has already started a new line of attack by Gimenez proposing to eliminate the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Miami-Dade Police Dept. His proposal will be discussed at the BCC's meeting on 1/25/07. Stay tuned!
