Miami Herald You Missed It! by geniusofdespair
Alex Caviglia, after a year in coma, died.
He sustained his injuries doing what he loved – he was kitesurfing at Matheson Hammock. Alex was one of the best sailors in Miami and he was a distributor of windsurfing equipment to the U.S., the Caribbean and South America.
His wonderful wife Sylvia planned a windsurfing race (3 day event) this weekend in Alex's honor to raise money for Miami’s Shake-A-Leg. Sylvia has worked on the logistics of the race for almost a year. Windsurfers from all over the world came to Miami to race: The best of the best. It is a very important race to the sport. I just got back from the dinner that followed a full day of racing in strong wind.
The sport of windsurfing is a big part of Miami. Miami houses most of the U.S. distributorships of windsurfing equipment and Virginia Key is known throughout the country as one of the top windsurfing beaches.
Numerous press releases were sent out about the race.
I guess you noticed the race wasn’t reported in the Herald...maybe tomorrow? What a photo op they missed today!
