I know what you will say, attendance is not important but Bruno Barreiro is the most powerful elected official here in Miami. He was elevated by the Commissioners to the top post in the County (unless we vote for the strong mayor, right now Mayor Alvarez is pretty much a figurehead).
So let's look at Bruno's attendance record on the Community Empowerment & Economic Revitalization Committee.
There was no meeting in August and two in October and November so there were 13 meetings total and
Bruno missed 7 of them. Meetings missed in 06: 3/14/, 5/16, 6/13, 9/19, 10/03, 10/17, 11/01.
By the way, the County website is so lousy, I could not find the members of this committee or what it does however there is a Dept. called "The Office of Community and Economic Development (OCED) which administers Federal and State funding that supports the development of viable urban neighborhoods in Miami-Dade County characterized by decent housing, expansion of economic opportunities and the preservation of historic properties." I guess it does something like that.

The committee info is on there... I think at the department of elections. I will look later if you want to know. I don't think it is 100% updated, but I have printed out the entire list before.
It is amazing how many committees are there; many of them are inactive too.
today in the herald it said they were going to create 3 more committees. the herald should check on attendance. where are these commissioners going to find the time to attend all these commission meetings, committee meetings and still hold full time jobs?

Anonymous No. 1: I stand by my statement. The county website has the worst search engine of any I have seen. In fact, I go to google to search the county website. BTW, Joe Martinez our X-Chair took all the "Chair" information off the website before Bruno Barreiro put anything up. So you get to a lot of missing pages/links trying to search the chair appointments. I am a good researcher. It should not be this hard to find info. In fact, regarding the attendance I just stumbled on that. And, there are many, many committees anonymous but only 6 made up OF commissioners.The rest the commissioners pick most of the membership so you can guess who is on them. The herald should look into that as well. Anonymous 2 is right, by the end of the day we should have nine I believe. They are voting on whether to increase the number of committees today.
Every agenda for each committee has the appointed commissioners listed at the top.
The inactive committees are kept on the system so you can search old agendas and meeting minutes. They used to be all jumbled together but now only the active committees show on the Agenda page.
It can always be better, but think about how hard it was to get this kind of info just 5 years ago.
