Someone Tell The Miami Herald That Derm Does Not Exist Anymore. By Geniusofdespair

I know the name DERM doesn't exist, Carlos Gimenez did away with it over a year ago, but I just refuse to accept the new name and still use DERM. The Newspaper, on the other hand, doesn't appear to be a rebel like me, they probably just don't know. It is now RER - Regulatory and Economic Resources (there is a misnomer for you to teach your kids). Gimenez folded DERM into Building, Business, Licenses, Permits, Planning and Zoning. One giant department under Jack Osterholt. UGH!

Today's paper.  Carlos Gimenez, give them a call and tell them you did away with the name.

Lee Hefty is trying to preserve the name but we all know it is a very different agency. Thank you Mr. Mayor for letting us know where your heart is really at!

How many DERM employees got fired in the process? How much less environmental enforcement ando oversight is taking place?
Another shameful act by Carlos "Little Rick Scott"
Gimenez.

You have missed the point on this issue on so many levels
1. The Herald knew about this early summer when they printed a guest editorial, but made no comment themselves until the Blanche Park soil contamination came out. Now they claim that the city did nothing until the soil was found in the White Hood. They knew about the West Grove 2 months ago and said nothing.
2. I sent an email to your partner asking to help get the word out on this issue after the guest editorial was published, but it was ignored. Why? Is major soil contamination in the city of Miami not an issue for you. Are you only a blog for the County?
3. Why are you more focused on acronyms than the fact that our local people, including children, have been poisoned and nothing has been done to address this situation. 2 years, and nothing. Fuck the acronymns!

I really appreciate the work you guys do. I am amazed that you have ignored this problem and have only addressed the mislabeling of the acronyms. What's more important, the name of the proper department, or the lives of the people in our community. Is this a blog that only deals with the problems of the white people, or is this an equal opportunity blog? You can be better than this!

Even the Herald appears to know that local commissioner Marc Sarnoff helped Coral Gables put its bus/trolley garage maintenance facility in West Grove and that he knew about the contamination in West Grove but he only spoke up when his dog park across the street from his house was affected.

Technically it is still DERM (DIVISION of Environmental Resource Management) and still functions in the exact same manner. It has actually expanded and taken on more roles.
