Commissioner Lynda Bell Tries an End-run on City of Homestead. By Geniusofdespair

I don't like Homestead's government much, but why did District 8 County Commissioner Lynda Bell go to Tallahassee trying to make an end-run around the local government on the CRA? She wants to change the playing field and give the County power over the CRA instead of the City. That doesn't sound like a good Republican move does it, sending power to a bigger government instead of keeping it local? The League of Cities is against it.

First she tried with her pal Erik Fresen in the State House. That failed. Now she is working with her former foe, Miguel Diaz de la Portilla trying to get the Senate to do her bidding.

Yes I know about the corrupt CRA. I had a copy of the audit by Kathy Jackson that was done years ago and reported on it in 2010.

The reason why this deserves a report, Lynda Bell is not doing this unholy alliance with these two State Legislators for good, it is out of vindictiveness against a City Government that doesn't acknowledge her at all. This isn't her first vindictive end-run. She also did it to the Department of Environmental Resource Management (DERM). When she couldn't get her way with them, she created a Wetlands' Task Force to punish DERM and help Rock Mining -- her biggest contributor. Dennis Moss saw through her charade telling her not to throw DERM under the bus.

Here is the Bill she was pushing with Fresen that died and Miguel Diaz de la Portilla's bill that is still alive:

General Bill   by Fresen

Vindictive is the word that best describes her.

Much like South Miami, Lynda Bell needs an enima!

Miss Lynda is EVIL.

Bell is a registered Republican but she does not act like one. She supports regulations on speech (requiring "ethics training" for anyone who must register to lobby; limitations on lobbying by former elected officials). EoM may agree with these types of laws, a Republican sees them as the left regulating society in violation of the constitution.

She is changing the Homestead CRA so she can control it from downtown. Bad lady.

Why did you pick a photo of her that makes her look like a beaver? Now I have to gouge out my eyes. You have forever ruined any future opportunity for a smile to come to my face in thinking of a beaver shot.

As a constituent, I have found Comm. Bell to be a good listener and very quick to respond to our neifhborhood's requests. Her staff has been excellent.

Constituent you are EXACTLY the reason why we have bad commissioners. You focus on the little picture and have a blind eye on the big important issues. You are taking the selfish approach-- what is in it for me...instead of is she best for us.

Point1
Are there problems with CRAs? DUH!!!

This issue may be a South Florida only problem where corruption is rampant.
If the stupid voters keep electing crooks like North Miami, Broward and Homestead there is no answer, the heavy hand of the state is also not the answer but if we knew the proposal she is fostering maybe we could get behind it.

Point2
Why are some personal vendettas allowed and others aren't? Name calling and pointless insults really don't solve the problem.

Marching with a Bible, belching venom - No question about it- EVIL is one word that describes her.

Just ask anybody in Homestead.

NARCISSIST in all its forms is another word that describes her: Glibness/superficial charm
Grandiose sense of self-worth
Pathological lying
Cunning/manipulative
Lack of remorse or guilt
Callous/lack of empathy
Failure to accept responsibility for own actions
Vindictive

Lynda Bell only looks out for herself and hers and will do anything to anybody to accomplish what she alone wants or, what she thinks benefit her!

This woman has hurt so many people.

She is despised in her own town.

"but if we knew the proposal she is fostering maybe we could get behind it."

press READ MORE and it is right there.

If you don't like name calling, read mainstream media and not this blog. A personal vendetta is when you don't have any reasons I have plenty and always give them and none to do with me...so it isn't personal

I'm pretty certain this won't get posted but what the hell, here goes.

We complain that the CRA in Homestead is corrupt. Genius made an in-depth report on this issue and I for one, appreciate it, cause Katherine Fernandez-Rundle was caught asleep at the wheel - again!

Yet, when Lynda tries to do something about the widespread corruption in the corrupt town she is soo despised in (gee, I wonder why? lol!) we "huff and puff" about her betrayal of Republican principles. So, the message here is let's "bitch" about the problem, but let's do nothing about it.

We complain at nausseum about the influence peddlers at County Hall (lobbyists for the folks in the "cheap seats"), yet when this commissioner proposes reforms, again to do something about the problem, we "huff and puff" that this violates the First Amendment right of LOBBYISTS?!

C'mon!

Lynda's motivation is at issue here. The way to solve problems is not by making end-runs. I gave 2 examples. She is sneaky and I believe her motivation was to strike back at those who marginalized her. Huff and puff at yourself -- but I do believe she is a fox...a sneaky fox. I am all for stamping out corruption and I hate CRA's but this crusade by her against DERM and against the Homestead CRA smells bigtime of vindictiveness.

If Lynda Bell was interested in having the county take contol of the CRA why didn't she do it with a County Commission vote? She made an end-run around to County Commission too. You missed that one.

Lynda is surrounded herself with people who will do what it takes to stay where they can benefit from her. They give constituents what they want by badging county staff --- they use intimidation to get results in violation of the county chain of command.

Yes, it is easy to fix every thing for your constituency when you drop not-so-subtle hints that you are gonna get what you want one way or another.

Interesting to see Phil Stoddard above the Lynda Bell post: two South Florida politicians at opposite ends of the spectrum.

Genius: I would like to Thank You for keeping us informed on the tricks of Lynda and Portilla.
I notice "certain counties" are mentioned throughout the CRA request. I would like more oversight on CRA because the CRA has become the new cash cow. However, which certain counties are they talking about. I think Dade and Broward are the target.

Lynda Bell needs to mind her own business and stay out of the other Miami Dade County Commissioners business and now stay out of other counties in Florida's business.
She is nothing more than a Clown or as reported in another blog Mrs. DumBell.
Former Mayor of Homestead, Florida-Fired by voters.
District 8 Commissioner in Miami Dade County-Lost in Early Bird Voting: Lost on Voting Day: Won with Absentee Voting by about 350 votes.
Now she would love going to the State of Florida as a Senator or House of Representative.
Help Us Somebody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh please, don't be so dramatic, she won by 362.
