MIAMI-DADE COUNTY MAYOR CARLOS A. GIMENEZ STATEMENT ON MIAMI-DADE WATER AND SEWER DEPARTMENT BID

See Our Blog On this Subject

Following a careful and detailed review of the response to my request for an opinion from the Executive Director of the Commission on Ethics and Public Trust, and the written observations submitted by the Interim Inspector General, a course of action has been developed with their participation to cure the irregularities identified in the selection process of the Program and Construction Management Services related to the wastewater system priority projects. To ensure the selection process continues to move forward, I will appoint a Mayoral Advisory Committee (Committee) composed of three external and two County staff members with knowledge and expertise in these types of services. This Committee will be charged with providing to me a final ranking and consensus statement of the proposals submitted by AECOM and CH2MHill.

It is important that this selection be completed via a fair and equitable process. Given their importance to the residents of our community, my administration is committed to expediting all Water and Sewer infrastructure projects in the County. In doing so, I want to ensure that the process we use to select firms and contractors is one that is fair, competitive and transparent.

Project is too big. No way this won't turn into an airport like disaster.

That is why I'm against a strong mayor form of government. Because the Mayer bent the law in favor of his friends at Aecom

He's taking a page out of Reagan's book when it comes to this committee stuff. Just like the Library Blue Ribbon Panel. He knows his end game and picks the people who will get him to his goal post. This is just smoke and mirrors, unfortunately for us the taxpayers. He was part of the BCC making bad decisions for years, though he wasn't part of the URM, he made his "fair share" of bad votes.

I think this is a good idea. It all depends on who he puts on this panel

Don't put Osterholt on it.

Michael Davis would be a good choice.

Jack Osterholt is a huge part of the problem.

Interesting decision. We won't start the process over. This closes the process to new bidders, but because they can provide more information, new subcontractors are possible.
