Norman Braman's Folly. By Geniusofdespair

Rather than doing a recall of  County Commissioner Bruno Barreiro and other County Commissioners, Norman Braman opted to run candidates against the sitting County Commissioners. He supported Former State Rep. Luis Garcia against Bruno. Bad move to run hand-picked candidates, it cost his PAC Change Miami-Dade Now!. Inc. $559,457.16. He also spent on the individual campaigns probably about $30,000 in each district -- he had 4 candidates.  All his candidates lost.  He underestimated the well-oiled machine of the sitting Commissioners.

With all the money Braman spent, he could have given all the sitting commissioners a scarlet letter: A recall. With funds it is not hard to do a recall. Even if the Commissioners won in the end, overcoming a recall in a reelection, their careers would have been forever tarnished.  Natacha Seijas had 2 recalls and the second time was the charm -- she was thrown out by a wide margin. Norman: It is still not too late to recall Pepe Diaz.

Braman should have funded the recalls when the time was ripe in 2010. The Barreiro recall effort that year received no help from him and they fell just a few signatures short. Pennywise and pound foolish.

His unwavering support of Marco Rubio is a bigger folly.

According to the Miami New Times story, Braman had plenty of extra money from his auto repair business to throw away on campaigns.

Why throw money away when you can actually accomplish something? He gambled when he could have had a sure thing: A recall. All a recall needed was money. That is what he had plenty of. He didn't use his resources correctly. Since he was giving most of the money to Dario Moreno, there had to be polling. What kind of data did they have that made them think they could win and then lose all 4 campaigns? Sounds like bad data.

MORENO/BRITO
County Commissioners couldn't ask for more.

Dario Moreno is the worst pollster on the market. You will notice his surveys have no fixed sample numbers (Statistics formulas that provide a certain margin of error are based on a particular sample size). No, Dario just keeps polling until he gets a percentage that pleases his client. There should be a licensing certificate or regulatory agency that prevents people like him from offering services. Candidates hire him to do polling that shows they are winning, so they can raise money. It is a very strange business model...but he keeps getting hired.

The money could have been used to feed the hungry and protect the abused children. But of course that does not feed the ego of a fool and those that drink his kool aid.
